Poised to be the new workhorse zoom, the Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8 L IS USM is a versatile wide-angle to portrait-length lens characterized by its bright, advanced, and intuitive design. The constant f/2.8 maximum aperture suits working in difficult lighting conditions and also enables greater control over depth of field. The optical design incorporates a series of aspherical and Ultra-Low Dispersion elements, which greatly reduce a variety of aberrations throughout the zoom range in order to produce sharp and clear imagery. An Air Sphere Coating has also been applied to suppress flare and ghosting when working in strong lighting conditions.

Balancing the distinguished optical assets is the Nano USM focus system, which delivers fast, nearly silent autofocus performance with full-time manual focus override. An Image Stabilizer also compensates for up to five stops of camera shake to help produce sharper handheld shots in difficult lighting conditions. A unique Control Ring is also integrated into the lens design for intuitive control over exposure settings from the lens itself. Additionally, this 24-70mm is weather-sealed and has a fluorine coating to protect the front and rear elements.

Standard wide-angle to telephoto zoom lens is designed for use with full-frame Canon RF-mount mirrorless cameras.
Bright f/2.8 constant maximum aperture maintains consistent illumination throughout the zoom range and suits working in low-light conditions as well as affords increased control over depth of field for working with selective focus techniques.
Three UD (Ultra-Low Dispersion) elements help to minimize chromatic aberrations and color fringing in order to provide greater clarity and color accuracy.
Three aspherical elements are used to correct spherical aberrations and distortion for improved sharpness and accurate rendering.
An Air Sphere Coating (ASC) has been applied to lens elements to reduce backlit flaring and ghosting for maintained light transmission and high contrast in strong lighting conditions.
An Optical Image Stabilizer helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by five stops to better enable working in low-light conditions and with slower shutter speeds.
Nano USM system utilizes both a ring type USM and an STM mechanism to realize quick and accurate focusing that is also smooth and nearly silent to suit both photography and video applications. This focusing system also affords full-time manual focus control when working in the one-shot AF mode.
Configurable Control Ring can be used to adjust a variety of exposure settings, including aperture, ISO, and exposure compensation.
Protective fluorine coating has been applied to the front and rear element to resist fingerprints and smudges and to make cleaning these elements significantly easier.
As a member of the esteemed L-series, this lens has a weather-resistant design that protects against dust and moisture to enable its use in inclement conditions.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

This changes everything

I primarily shoot events and weddings. I have been on the RF mount system for nearly 3 years and mostly with adapted lenses. I have been shooting with wide open primes most of my photo life. Why? Because we are told this is how you get the best results. Hence I have always gotten great results that way. This Canon RF 24-70mm challenges that thinking. It's Stabilized. 2.8 is decently fast. Supreme build quality. Sniper-like autofocus on the R6.This produces images as sharp and at times sharper than my primes. It's a cheat code for shooting fast moving events and occasions. I have used other 24-70mm standard zooms. To my eye this is a step better. Yes it is expensive. For my workflow using one lens for 80% of the day is worth it. I focus on composition and moments instead of which lens and what to have on hand. This may not be sexy,but it meets and exceeds my needs. This is the desert island lens!

This is everything I'd wanted in a 24-70 f/2.8 III. Sharpness and image quality are stellar, and it now has IS. Absolutely fantastic lens. The included land hood isn't frocked anymore, I'm curious why Canon changed that, it also feels thinner and lighter than previous Canon lens hoods.

Great zoom range for woodland

I found that my 14-35, at times, could be too wide for simplifying woodland shots and my 70-200 to narrow. While I still love using these lenses, the 24-70 range was the missing piece. It stays on my camera most of time. The IQ is great and the lens feels good and easy to use with the r5. Highly recommend!

No. The PZ-E12 zoom adapter is unique and only works with the EF 85-135 lens you mentioned.

I purchased this lens for videos wondering if I could go with out the IS and get the 28-70 F2 Instead?

I don't do a lot of video (mostly still photos with my R). But IS is going to make your videos much less shaky if you are hand holding. If you are using a tripod or gymbal, than that is another story of course. Aside from that, I picked the 24-70 since the 28-70 F2 is much larger and heavier, and uses a larger and less common filter thread size; with the only advantage being the larger max aperture. And the 28-70 F2 is more expensive too, of course. The F2 would be nice to have, but I didn't personally think it justified the extra size, weight, cost, and expense.

I have canon R6 and a 24-105mm RF lens f/4. I am wanting to learn studio lighting concentrating on newborns and children. Is my lens ok for this or would the 24-70mm 2.8 work better for me because of the lower aperture? Thanks for any help and recommendations.

The RF 24-70mm f/2.8 has the advantage of the extra stop, however your current RF 24-105mm f/4 gives you the longer telephoto range. As far as which is the better lens, that would depend on whether you need the extra stop or the longer telephoto range.

Absence of focus distance scale is presumably for aesthetic reasons, and possibly to make room for the control ring (which IMO is extremely useful, and much more so than the focus distance scale). You can certainly have full time manual focus override. Although I had to go into settings to enable it. In the default settings, turning the focus ring (when lens is switched to AF) does nothing. But easy enough to change that setting. This lens is weather sealed, presumably to the level of other Canon "L" lenses. Although I haven't seen a teardown or direct comparison. But the build quality is excellent, and I expect the level of weather sealing is the same.

There's a slight click when zooming in and out, is this normal?

The only sound you get when you completely zoom out or zoom in Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8 L IS USM Lens is the sound of the lens barrel taps its maximum point. If you hear a click throughout the zoom it may be due to a manufacturing defect or accidental damage.

What is the size of the image circle? I would use it on my V-Raptor but the sensor has a 46.31 diagonal and I wonder if this lens will cover it completely.

Unfortunately, Canon does not specify the image circle size produced by the Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8 L IS USM Lens in the lens' specifications. As such, you may need to contact them directly to see if they have this information available.
