Sony A6100 Reviews
It's hard to know what the file will look like.

Sony made some weird decisions with this one. First of all, they like to go for an exaggerated look in their contrast and color. That would be fine, except that the camera's adjustments at their minimum are only just enough to look truly realistic. Sure, the color can look quite faded in full lighting when on the lowest setting, but night shots look just right. Sony just barely squeezes by with these settings. Anyone wanting a faded look on purpose will be disappointed. In fact, it's hard to make the contrast look low at all. This is especially a problem for anyone trying to get light sources into the shot with the intent of fixing it in editing. My biggest complaint, though, is that Sony decided to make the two displays on the camera look different from what goes into the file. It's actually not the displays' fault since the camera can be adjusted for them to look good. It's just not what will be seen in the file. If you're thinking that an added-on display would fix this, it's quite apparent that anything connected to the HDMI port looks eerily similar to the camera's displays. Both seem to be driven by the same internal device that is simply not calibrated to what goes into the files. I seriously don't know what Sony was thinking with this one. Anyone wanting to stream video to the internet is in luck, though. It's possible to adjust the camera's settings to make its displays look great and then trust that those adjustments will look good through the HDMI port. The camera's problem there, though, is that it overheats after maybe an hour. A very quiet cooling fan can fix this. Just have fun finding one.

I just received my Sony 6100A and have used it 4 times for indoor basketball and indoor parties. There are so many great options with the camera. I also chose to buy 2 lenses which add great versatility.

Very happy with the images straight out of the camera.
I mostly shoot landscape photos very happy with the colors of the jpegs.
I would definitely recommend this camera to anybody wanting a small interchangeable lens camera.

This is my first detachable lens camera. Very good so far. First, a couple minor drawbacks:
*Separate charger not included, can only be charged by plugging camera in wall with a short USB cable.
*Battery life shorter than expected, uses juice much faster than my old p&s. (Aftermarket chargers and back up batteries recommended)
*Network connectivity clunky. Easiest way to transfer images is to remove the microchip. Otherwise, you can only use Wi-fi to smartphone (using Sony's awkward app) or USB to PC.
*Strap is cheap and uncomfortable (replace it with a Peak)
*Only a lens cap for the kit lens. No tether holding the cap on, and no case/cover for the lens if you remove it.
Aside from these minor complaints, it's been a great camera. Menus and settings are generally self-explanatory. Sony Alphas have many dedicated fan sites, great for tips and perspectives. Within a couple weeks I'm taking decent photos, and I've hardly scratched the surface of the settings available and I'm still using the kit lens.

I have owned several Sony cameras over the years. Some users may find the menu system intimidating, but once you've mastered the settings you need, the system is quite versatile. Ergonomics is important to me, and the Sony 6100 is comfortable to hold, even with a zoom lens. Because of B+H's fair return policies, I have returned equipment because of design features. The return policy is important to me because I don't have the luxury of visiting a camera store to assess how the features play out in daily usage. Regarding product quality, nothing on the camera feels loose or flimsy. Sony seems to pay particular attention to the dials and buttons for the comfort of the photographer. This comment is not to cast negatives on any other brand sold by B+H, as I have a Canon and I have owned Fujifilm which were impeccably sound. I have always felt confident purchasing from B+H ( not only cameras/lenses) and their business integrity appears to me, above all norms.

I have a Sony Alpha 77, and need something smaller. This fit the bill. The camera is light and small in size. It has the features that the A77 does plus some more. The connection to the phone for control and uploading to the camera. The 16-50 lens has a button on it to zoom the lens smoothly for doing video. The video was one thing that I did not use on my other camera, zoom in and out was tough. Ready to learn more about this camera.
