Samyang AF 18mm f/2.8 FE Lens for Sony E
Key Features
  • E-Mount Lens/Full-Frame Format
  • Aperture Range: f/2.8 to f/22
  • Three Aspherical and Two HR Elements
  • Three Extra-Low Dispersion Elements
Offering an ultra-wide field of view, the Sony E-mount AF 18mm f/2.8 FE from Samyang is also distinguished by its especially compact and lightweight design. The rectilinear wide-angle design is well-suited for landscape, architecture, and interior subjects, as well as being suitable for astrophotography applications. Its optical design includes a series of aspherical, high refractive index, and extra-low dispersion elements, which reduce a variety of aberrations in order to produce well-controlled, sharp, and clear imagery. An Ultra Multi-Coating has also been applied to individual elements to suppress flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy. Additionally, the lens's linear STM autofocus motor works in conjunction with Sony cameras' AF systems for quick, quiet, and precise focusing performance, and manual focus override is also available for more refined control.

Does this lens work in both full frame and asp-c modes?
Asked by: Michael
Yes. As the Samyang AF 18mm f/2.8 FE Lens for Sony E is designed for the larger full-frame sensor, it would be compatible for use on both full-frame E-mount cameras and APS-C sensor E-mount cameras. The larger full-frame lenses can be used on the smaller sensor as the larger lens' imaging circle covers the entire smaller sensor. However, if you use a lens designed for a smaller sensor on a camera designed for a larger sensor, the smaller imaging circle will not cover the larger sensor, and will crop the larger sensor and cause you to lose resolution. Simply put, you can put a full-frame lens on a smaller sensor without consequences to resolution. If you put a smaller lens or a larger sensor, the maximum resolution of the larger sensor is cropped.

If the E mount is used on the DJI Ronin 4D it will fit and it is light enough. But it has not been tested and is not listed as compatible.

To take full advantage of the image quality that this camera can produce, the Zeiss Batis 18mm/2.8 would be an excellent choice.
