FUJIFILM GF 120mm f/4 Macro R LM OIS WR Lens

Designed for working with close-up subjects, the GF 120mm f/4 Macro R LM OIS WR from FUJIFILM is a versatile short telephoto prime for the G-mount GFX camera system. Offering a 95mm equivalent focal length, along with a maximum magnification of 1:2 and a 1.5' Minimum focusing distance, this lens is well-suited for photographing near macro subjects as well as portraits and still lifes. Its optical design incorporates three extra-low dispersion elements to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity and color accuracy, and the design has also been optimized to render smooth out-of-focus area in front of and behind the plane of focus to suit shallow depth of field imagery. Additionally, a floating elements system is employed for consistent sharpness throughout the focusing range, and a linear AF motor provides fast and quiet focusing performance.

Benefitting handheld shooting, Optical Image Stabilization Minimizes the appearance of camera shake for sharper imagery when working with slower shutter speeds. A focus range limiter switch is also available, to constrain the focusing to a 1.5' to 3' range, a 3' to infinity range, or the full focusing range. A fluorine coating has also been added to the front element to repel moisture and the lens also features a dust-, freeze-, and weather-resistant construction for use in inclement conditions. Additionally, a manual aperture ring is featured for intuitive, tactile adjustment over exposure settings, and a Command position can also be set for camera-based control over the aperture.

Chiaro Pro 72mm 98-UVATS UV Filter

The Pro 72mm 98-UVATS UV Filter is one of Chiaro’s highest-rated protective UV filters with 98% light transmission. It’s ideal for photographers of all levels who demand high-quality glass and other essential features for excellent image fidelity and construction.

To achieve 98% light transmission, Chiaro uses highly-polished optical glass, multi-coating, and additional advanced elements that improve the filter’s light transmission. A scratch-resistant coating minimizes scratching of the glass and helps assure that water, oil, dust, and fingerprints are removed with a gentle wipe. Its hard-anodized aluminum filter ring is designed to screw on and off effortlessly, and it is thin to prevent vignetting when used with wide-angle lenses. Side knurling helps assure that you’ll have a firm grip when attaching or removing your filter.

Image quality is what matters most at Chiaro. The company has tested and combined many features and essentials to achieve superior image quality and the highest light transmission. To help take the confusion out of selecting a filter, Chiaro prominently displays the light transmission levels so that you can choose the perfect filter for your lens and photo session.

98% Light Transmission
Protecting your lens doesn't mean you have to lose optical quality. By using highly-polished optical glass and advanced coatings, Chiaro offers a 98% transmission rate, which is an excellent transmission rate for glass. And the company verifies the ratings with ISO certified lab testing.
Resistance Coating
The layers of advanced resistance coating on the filter are designed to resist moderate scratches, and allow you to easily clean your filter. Water beads up and rolls off your filter, and oil and fingerprints can come off with a gentle wipe. Dust and debris won't adhere to the filter and can be removed with a puff of air.
Polished Optical Glass
Glass that's polished to perfection is essential to achieve a high level of light transmission. The optical glass in this Chiaro filter is highly-polished for flatness that ensures excellent optical clarity.
Multi-Coating
Multi-coating enhances light transmission to the demanding level set for all Chiaro filters. It reduces unwanted internal reflections and ghosting that can compromise your images.
UV Protection
The filter blocks UV light and reduces the bluish cast of daylight that can affect color accuracy, especially at higher altitudes.
Hard Anodized Aluminum Construction
The process of hard anodizing toughens and strengthens the aluminum for a lightweight yet durable filter ring.
Slim Design
Measuring only 3.2mm, this filter is slim enough to use on wide-angle lenses without experiencing vignetting.
Top and Side Knurling
In addition to top knurling, Chiaro added side knurling to better grip the filter when you're attaching and removing it, or when you're stacking filters.
Secure Attachment
It takes two full turns to mount the filter on your lens. This feature will securely hold your Chiaro filter through the most demanding photo shoots.
Front Threads
The front threads on the filter allow you to stack filters by screwing them onto your Chiaro filter.

Lovely results. Works well with the 100S stabilization together. Wish Fuji made a 63mm macro. You won't regret this purchase.

Spectacular lens

I recently used this lens for macro photography and was literally blown away by the result. No camera can produce the images I saw without a lens that is as good or better than the 100mb sensor. The pollen could be seen on a bee's legs as individual specs. It does not get any sharper or better than this lens.

Good Lens

Using with GFX 100. This doesn't disappoint. Easy handling. Sharp edge to edge from f/5.6 through f/22 (with very little refraction loss up to f/22 but noticeable beyond that); little to no distortion; excellent color rendition. Even without the 45mm extension, it gets close enough for most product work detail shots. It's a bit too sharp/contrasty for portraiture work (whereas the 110 f/2 is magnificent). This has already become my most used lens. If only the hood was a bit shorter.

Excellent Macro/ short telephoto

With the onset of lockdown, I had decided to do some macrophotography with my GFX100. This lens is extremely sharp, and together with the MCEX-45 provides my sought after 1:1 magnification. Its exceptional OIS is an added bonus that I've found useful when using it as a short telephoto lens.

Nearly perfect...

First, when the lens arrives realize that it is 1:2 and not 1:1 so you'll not be able to get really close to the subject. In order to achieve this you'll need the Fuji extension tube so focus distance is about 1.5-2 feet away from the subject. Secondly, the lens internal mechanism shifts and moves when not on the camera and powered up. This is normal but it unfortunately is not disclosed so I assumed it was broken as I have never had a lens behave in this manner. The mechanism will shift inside and you can feel the movement. Thirdly, the lens is noisy. It will be constantly whining and making noises. The internal mechanisms are continuously running and you can hear the motors. These aren't necessarily bad things, just things you should know out of the box that is pretty obscurely hidden on the internet. However, the images are spectacular. Sharp edge to edge and the focus mechanism is reasonably fast. It performs consistent to slightly better than the 45mm in this regard. It is heavy but IMO a fabulous lens for macro work and portraiture. This and the 45mm can satisfy all my needs in a variety of venues.

Macro 1:1

Only macro lens fujifilm makes for g-mount. To be honest, I don’t use this lens as often as I would like. I find myself reaching for the 110 f2 instead. But the times I have used this lens, I found it very enjoyable to use. I forget that this lens is as good a portrait lens as it is a macro lens, and I end up shooting tighter and tighter pics of my subject until I have singled out their iris!! It brings out the creativity in you, if your a creative person that is..... Although its f/4 you will still see the background melt away almost completely in portraits (or macro). You can’t forget that this lens is being used on a much larger sensor than the small format. F/4 is very different on both, & no, you can’t just multiply and get an equivalent, the sensor surface area still plays a huge factor in how this aperture is perceived. This lens is sharp and stabilised built like it was meant for chasing down bugs in the Amazon. Weather sealed this lens will be fine outdoors, you will likely be running for shelter before the bugs or the lens for that matter..... The very large focus ring is easy to use without having to take your eye off your skittish subject. This lens is a touch longer than the 110mm and much shorter and much lighter than the 250mm. Add extension tubes for that MICRO realm. Although, I do love this lens is already a native 1:1 macro. I might be the only one here giving this lens a 5 star, but I’m also the only one giving it a review. Possibly because everyone else has yet to discover the versatility of this lens. You know what? I wasn’t going to write a review on this lens, but now that I have, I’m pumped for using this lens much more often. Turn your back on all the bad news of the world, and immerse yourself with the backyard bugs, you never know, you may actually find something in the world to smile about...... Even ‘I’ don’t give this lens the attention it deserves....

Love it - The sharpest lens I've ever used

I shoot small items and frequently take macro/very close shots. This lens produces mesmerizing images, can't rate it highly enough. Paired with the 100s, it's a dream to use imo - sharp glass, well built. Of course it's not true macro, but I have no complaints on the results

This is not a macro lens

If you find more technical tests online for this lens, you will be enamored by how perfect it is. Sharp corner to corner even wide open. Amazing bokeh, etc. All of this is true. But this is not a macro lens. If you try to use it at the minimum close distance, you will see that outside a tiny patch in the middle, it is quite soft and downright awful in the corners, at all apertures. So if you are looking to take photos of small flat objects (like digitizing film with a camera) you will be much better served by APS-C or full frame true 1:1 macro lenses. By the way, adding an extension tube does not help, it only makes it worse. This lens is not optimized for close focus, but it is marvelous for subjects from 6 feet to infinity.

There has been no reports that we know of any focus breathing with this lens. Being a telephoto prime we would expect very little anyway.

The minimum focus distance is measured from the focal plane or sensor, not from the front of the lens. Hence, the minimum focusing distance would be from this plane to whatever you are focusing on.

I want to use this lens to digitize 8x10 negatives on a copy stand with light source from below. Will the lens allow the image of the 8x10 film to fit the GFX 50R viewfinder at a copy stand height of 32 inches or less? Thanks.
Asked by: Bill
FUJIFILM GF 120mm f/4 Macro R LM OIS WR Lens has an angle of view of 25.7 degrees. If you use trigonometry and calculate for a distance of 32 inches you can take a photo of an item that is 14.6 inches in size. So an 8x10 film will fit.

question

Should I be able to detect something shifting back and forth inside the lens if I tilt it up and down?
Asked by: David B.
Not to worry. Many of the Fujifilm optics have components that move freely inside until the power comes on. As soon as camera turns on, that goes away.
