LITRA LitraStudio Overview

The LitraStudio RGBWW Photo & Video LED Light from LITRA offers multiple modes of operation that can be controlled via the onboard OLED display or remotely via a companion iOS/Android app. The compact on-camera light features CCT, HSI, RGBWW, Gel, Effects, and Flash modes all built-in, allowing you to use it in both photo and video applications. It has a highly rugged all-aluminum design, armor-clad on the sides and rear, and it’s waterproof down to 30'.

CCT mode provides a wide color temperature range of 2000 to 10,000K with a color accuracy rating of 97 TLCI/CRI. It also lets you adjust green/magenta tint at any selected color temperature. Max brightness is 2400 lumens but there's an overdrive mode that boosts power to 3000 lumens. Flash mode gives you a flash of 6000 lumens and also allows for camera flash synchronization.

In HSI mode, you can fully adjust hue, saturation, and intensity as well as dial-in precise colors from over one million possible combinations. Gel and Effects modes provide common industry-standard digital gels and effects such as for police siren, paparazzi, and candle, all built-in and available at your fingertips. You won't need to carry any gels around with you nor effects machines.

The LitraStudio is designed with a microstructure lens that ensures an even light pattern without any center hot spot or harsh edges. It provides a smooth output. It's also flicker-free at all shutter angles. The light is battery-operated by an integrated 9000mAh lithium-ion battery, which provides a runtime of one hour when the light's brightness is set to 2400 lumens. At a low brightness setting, the battery runs for up to 20 hours.

Included are a quick charger, a diffuser for softening the light output, and a handgrip that secures to the 1/4"-20 thread on the bottom of the light for handheld use. You also get a carry case for convenient transport and storage. Dedicated optional accessories for the LitraStudio include a softbox, barndoors, honeycomb grids, light modifiers, and more.

LITRA LitraStudio Reviews

Robust quality, lots of lighting effects

I've owned several Litra cubes and pros before buying the LitraStudio. It doesn't disappoint. Like the others, The construction is robust, with excellent weather sealing. Given its size, it is somewhat heavy. The app provides a lot of built-in effects, like candlelight, police lights, etc.

I purchased the light and softbox in January and it’s a versatile light source.  I’ve used the light for a variety of projects and am happy with the results. It also improves videoconferencing when paired with my full frame Canon a nice lens and the Canon Webcam Utility.  Upon removing the light from its included carrying case I heard a rattle that ended up being a knob that somehow cracked in half. I sent an email to customer service and was promptly FedEx’d a couple replacement knobs.

Awesomeness!

Picked up the LitraStudio after using a LitraPro for a few months. I was looking for something water resistant for rain use, and a bit smaller and brighter than my current Ikan MB4. After it's first use, the Litra refused to charge. Had to reset multiple times to get it to charge, then it did it again. My LitraPro at times just refuses to turn on at all, complete little brick, and a friend with a Pro with the same problem had to exchange his Pro for the same reason. So with Litra, you must expect issues with the firmware and electronics of the units, just assume it could brick out on you, and keep that in mind when putting down rather large sums of money for these devices. Issues aside, the reason for 4 stars BTW, the light is exceptionally bright for it's rather compact size. I use this as my primary lighting for night ENG work, where rain is always a possibility. Out of the box, the light is visibly green, visible to the eye and camera. A quick twist of the G dial to -15 fixes that, and lights up all the pretty red and blue LED's to do so. HEAVY light, 1kg, 2lb's, it can be a monster when placed atop a small 1KG handheld camera for instance. It also has lots of fun party tricks in the event you need to simulate police lights, in as many as 5-6 color combinations, or a flickering candle, etc. Last note, when you activate the output boost mode, it gets brighter and a 299 second countdown displays on the LCD display. If you turn the light off and on for each shot, such as for a quick live report, this is plenty of time to take advantage of the extra illumination, a nice touch

Light is compact with battery operation. I like different lighting effects such as clouds and candlelight. You may also have a multiple color light effect .

What are the photometrics of this light? I bought a Litra Pro and am blown away by the light output for it's size, but looking for something with more luminance. I currently use an Ikan MB4 for 3200k, and am trying to figure out if this Litra can outperform my MB4 in bare 3200k luminance. Photometrics for 3200k and 5600k at say 1m? 3m? Beam width degrees? Are the RGB LEDs used for 3200k-5600k, or are those color temps only using the bi-color LED arrays?
Asked by: Paul
The LitraStudio puts out 3,000 lumen vs. the LitraPro's 1,200 lumen at 1 meter. The temperature range is from 2k-10k. The WW in RGBWW stands for warm white and cool white. These bulbs are used to adjust in this temp range but the RGB lights do come in as there is an additional adjustment for green / magenta shift. The beam angle is 50 degrees. The LitraStudio uses a 9000mAh Li battery that is internal. The light is waterproof to 10 meters and built from billet aluminum and is rugged. How long does the battery lasts at 100% output?
Asked by: Wei Ming
At max output, the LitraStudio will run 1 hour. You can also run it plugged in if you are in a studio and the LitraStudio batteries can be swapped so if you need more run time you can carry an extra battery.

How is it triggered as a flash?

How is it triggered as a flash?
Asked by: Tom
Litra Created a custom USB-C Cable to PC Cable connector that is available as an accessory, enabling the flash to be triggered from the camera. This would connect to the industry standard PC Port. For cameras without the PC port, you can use a hot shoe to PC adapter.

What is the duration of the flash (in milliseconds) when used at full power?
Asked by: Jim
The Flash will be triggered by the camera for an "ON" signal and "OFF" signal. So the duration is set by the camera. There is a 1ms delay from camera signal to "ON" or "OFF."

Seems my brand new LitraStudio w. Fully charged battery will not power on unless the charger is connected. After turning on I can disconnect and it will turn on. But after being off for a while it needs to be connected again to turn on. User error? Something I don’t know about turning it on? Thanks!

Thanks to Andrew for taking time to reply. It had to have been an error on my part; the unit is now working properly.

Is this DMX compatible?
Asked by: Jose Miguel
The LitraStudio is DMX compatible if you buy the DMX Dongle, sold separately. This Dongle is USB-C to DMX, patented by Litra and has a USB-C pass through for power. They can be daisy chained together, as well. Here is the link to the DMX Dongle: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1507077-REG/litra_ldmxd_litrastudio_dmx_dongle.html?sts=pi&pim=Y
