This looks ideal for my need, however.....Can I copy finished PremierePro files directly to the SSD for playback? Many recorders say they can, but only after cumbersome and difficult proprietary encoding conversions.
Asked by: Theodore
Hello Theodore, yes it can work as long as your playback files are ProRes and or DNx files.

If used to record multiple 1080p60 signals, do the signals have to be synchronous? (Do incoming signals all have to be genlocked to the same reference?)
Asked by: Derek
Hello Derek, the SST2 is A-SYCNRONIZED, as long as all the signals (Resolution and frame rate) coming in matches "input 1" which becomes the "master. So if your first is 1080p60 (which is the max for quad) then the others must be 1080p60 as well.

Can you link 2 of these devices together for 4x 4k60 recording? Similar to the Blackmagic Hyperdeck Studio Pro 4K?
Asked by: Kevin
The Atomos Shogun Studio II Rackmount 4K Dual Recorder & Monitor (3RU) (B&H# ATSGS2) has dual recording ability and recording can be done simultaneously on both sources. While a single button on the unit does initiate such simultaneous recording, that is only for this unit. Having said that, please note that the unit can record up to eight HDp60 sources in industry standard Apple ProRes, ProRes RAW and AVID DNx codecs. Of course, the abilities both of this product (through firmware updates) and any software used to control it (or two such units) may change in the future.

I have 2 questions about this product. 1) Can I link 2x Shogun 2 I have 2x questions. Can I Sync 2x Shogun 2 Devices together via Genlock, for up to 4x 4k60 simultaneous timesynced recording? And if so, can I also record 4x 4k30 at times instead of 4x 4k60? Thank you!
Asked by: Kevin
Yes you are capable of syncing 2 of these dual recorders together to get 4 synchronized recordings. These recorders are able to record in any standard frame rate/resolution up to 4K 60p, however, if you want them to sync you will need all 4 to have the same frame rate.
