Core SWX NANO-C98 Reviews

Core really really needs to include tiny instruction sheet...

1st NANO-VBR98 I bought for my Panasonic AG-CX350 camcorder was back in 2021. I love it! Still works great. 2nd one I bought last month would not charge. Sent it back to B&H for a replacement. Got the replacement and IT would not charger either. Anxiety set in. Contacted B&H customer service for help. They communicated a few times with Core SWX Tech support about the problem and finally got a good answer from them that these batteries need what Core calls a "Jump Start" procedure when initiating the 1st charge. This trick is putting it on and off the charger, back and forth numerous times before the charger "sees" it and starts charging it. Once the charge light stays a solid orange and is not blinking, the "Jump Start" is successful and the bottom green battery level indicator light on the actual battery will blink and that's a good comforting sign that the battery will be successfully charged completely from that point on with the charge light turning the normal solid green when full charge is achieved.

Perfect Single Battery Solution for FX6

I bought these to power a Sony FX6 & an Atomos Ninja V via D-Tap and it runs the whole set up for 2.5hrs on the conservative side. I recommend having 3 total for an entire shoot day. This battery allows you to reduce your battery footprint and have one battery to power your rig without building out a larger detached battery setup. Also these batteries work perfectly with the supplied Sony charger and you do NOT need to purchase a separate charger unless you are looking for more charging capacity. Upon receiving the batteries they took much longer to charge than they typically do after the first charge, I'm guessing they were a little depleted from being on the shelf for awhile. However after the first charge they recharge quickly within the time it takes you to burn out a fully charged one on set.

Well, let me tell you a tale. I purchased this battery several years ago and liked its reliability and ability to allow for me to run my camera for very long recording sessions. Therefore, I felt the need to purchase a second one for my second camera. The first one that came from B&H was DOA (Dead on Arrival). I tried several times to get the new battery to begin a charge cycle with no positive results. I quickly called B&H for a RMA and spoke with Lee (sp?). He was very helpful in resolving my issue. I asked if there was a possibility of checking the replacement battery prior to shipping; he could not do this. So, with a bit of trepidation, I acquiesced to the swap. The replacement battery came in roughly a week later. Again, the battery was DOA. More than a little concerned, I began a series of placing the battery onto the charger (Panasonic Model Charger), removing the battery when the charger indicated an error, then placing the battery on the charger again. After about the eighth attempt, the battery began to take a charge. A few hours later, it was full! Fast forward to about a week later, I had a chance to use it during a long recording session. Not only did I run the camera with the battery, but the battery supplied power to my Accsoon transmitter. I ran that battery for several hours without issue. Final Word: If you need a high capacity battery, this one is great. However, the caveat is that you may have an issue with a unit that may have been on the shelf for a while.

Been charging the battery for hours but it won't charge. Really needed it for my C200. Need to be lightweight while having d tap available. But this didn't work. Be sure to test right away if you purchase.

Does the c200 charger work with this battery? It seems like yes, but the reviews seem to say no...
Asked by: Noah
Short answer: yes it works fine. Long answer: it doesn't fully lock in so it will occasionally lose contact and stop charging. I put some tape down on the bottom of the charger to make it a tighter fit and it has worked flawlessly ever since. It just takes a little more effort to get the battery into place.

Will a Canon C300 battery charger charge this battery?
Asked by: Bart
You can charge the battery via compatible OEM Canon chargers. However this battery is for the C300 Mark II, not the original C300. If you have a C300 Mark II you can use the same charger, but it will not charge on systems for the C300 as that uses a different battery type.

The Atomos DC to D-Tap connector for the Ninja V ...

The Atomos DC to D-Tap connector for the Ninja V does not fit the Smartap - does anybody have a good alternative?
Asked by: Michael
The Core SWX NANO-C98 14.8V Battery with D-Tap for Select Canon Camcorders (B&H# CONANOC98) features a one-way female D-Tap port for power. It is designed to make it difficult to reverse the connection because that would reverse the polarity of the (DC) electricity and possibly damage your equipment. Please be sure you are connecting it appropriately. Having said that, the Watson Pro D-Tap to 2.1mm Barrel Cable (19") (B&H# WACADTAP21M) will connect a D-tap power source such as the Core SWX NANO-C98 to a 5.5mm wide barrel port with a 2.1mm pin which is what many Atomos products use.
