Atech Flash Technology TX-1CXQ Reviews

Tested against RED's reader

By Andrew

Ran a test against the Red reader that came with our V Raptor. On a 67gb file, this transferred in about 57 seconds whereas the RED which connects with the latest USB, took just under two minutes when transferring to an NVME SSD. However -- when transferring to a standard HDD, this reader and the RED reader both took about four minutes -- it was a tie. As such, the write speed of your hard drive will be what sets the speed if you dont have a fast hard drive.. If you have the FASTEST SSDs you are better off with this reader. Also keep in mind some SSDs are not that fast. The NVMEs are much faster than most SSDs. Anyway, if you have normal HDDs then either reader is the same. One note -- the RED reader has a more stable physical connector to the cable than this one. This is just a little slot for the cable whereas the RED reader has a larger hole you put the whole cable in and it holds it more securely.

Very good reader for CFExpress cards

There are very few CFExpress readers on the market that are available on a Thunderbolt 3 interface, and this reader is one of them. I was able to verify that the OWC 1TB Atlas Pro CFExpress cards I bought are great for recording 4K video on a Canon R5 camera. On a Mac I didn't need any driver to read and write CFExpress cards, it's just a plug-and-play operation, really nice. The device is powered through the Thunderbolt interface, so there's no need for additional cables going to the reader. A short Thunderbolt 3 cable is included in the box, nothing else is needed to start using the device.

Works as advertised.

I needed a thunderbolt card for my desktop. Once I had that, this things burns through files like butter. Fast and safe.

Unfortunately, to use Sony xqd cards, you must download software from Sony. That software is NOT compatible with new apple m1 machines.

doesn't work with Mac M1 chip. You have to download a software to use this, the link they provide does not take you directly to the software. They have a link to a video on how to install it...it takes you a page with 30 other videos. after 15 minutes of troubleshooting on trying to get this thing to work. I realized it is not worth the money.

I have 2 Sony XQD readers and they sometime are glitchy depending on type 1 or type 2 cards. I picked up a ProGrade reader and couldn't make it work at all even with multiple attempts and software downloads and a computer tech. This Atech came fast and saved me in a pinch. Thank you B&H!

Blackjet TX-1CXQ reads fast

Installed an ASUS thunderbolt expansion card in a PC then connected the Atech Flash Technology Blackjet TX-1CXQ. I'm getting 1644 MB/s read but only 312 MB/s write. I don't care much about the write speed because I rarely write to CFexpress Type B. Customer support is excellent. Couldn't get the ASUS thunderbolt card to recognize the Atech card reader. Atech support sent me the ASUS firmware update needed to let the two communicate. The firmware update was not available @ASUS support. Not sure if it was all worth the money as I get 1050 MB/s with both the Delkin and SanDisk Type B card readers from USB 3.2 gen 2. Thought I would have gotten more from the thunderbolt. Now that I've got it I am happy, knocked off one star for the slow write time.

Just got it to see, it's almost May 2023, and there is no updated driver at all for this, it will not work with M1 chips, Sony's driver specifically says it will only work on up to High Sierra OS to boot.

The Disclaimer is confusing. Will this work for both CFExpress and XQD on a late-2016 MacBook Pro? My Mac doesn't "say" whether it's Thunderbolt 2 or 3 other than it reports that speed is "up to 40Gb/s x1"

The Apple Thunderbolt 3 Male to Thunderbolt 2 Female Adapter will not work to connect bus-powered Thunderbolt 3 peripherals to older computers with TB1 or TB2 ports. The reason being bus-powered TB3 devices can use up to 15W of power but TB1 or TB2 port can only provide up to 10W by spec.

This Card Reader mentions that it works with CFexpress Type B 1.0 version cards. I own the Angelbird 1TB AV Pro CFexpress 2.0 Type B Memory Card. Since the card I have is a 2.0 version card and not 1.0 version, will it be compatible with this card reader? Lastly, will this Thunderbolt 3 interface communicate and be compatible with a Thunderbolt 4 port on my computer?
Asked by: Corey
According to the manufacturer, the the Atech Flash Technology Blackjet TX-1CXQ CFexpress Type B / XQD Thunderbolt 3 Card Reader supports any version of CFexpress Type B cards, so it would be compatible for use with the Angelbird 1TB AV Pro CFexpress 2.0 Type B Memory Card. Also, they state the card reader is compatible for use with both Thunderbolt 3 and Thunderbolt 4 ports.
