Hollyland Mars 400 Overview

The Mars 400S from Hollyland is an entry-level 1080p60 transmitter/receiver system featuring a 400' line-of-sight transmission range. In a compact design, the transmitter and receiver each have an SDI and HDMI connection. The choice between the two connection types expands your compatibility options and also lets you grow in case currently you only need one.

Additionally, an optional second receiver can be linked up to the transmitter to accept the signal at the same time. The transmitter is also capable of sending the signal over built-in Wi-Fi to up to four mobile devices, whether it is also sending to a receiver at the time or not. This will allow different people/departments on the set to view the image being captured. The image is sent to the HollyView app, which is compatible with iOS and Android.

Both the transmitter and receiver have a built-in L-series battery plate and also support DC power. Batteries are sold separately. One power adapter is included to get you started on the receiver end. Both units also have an OLED display that confirms the resolution, transmission channel, signal strength, and other details. The display also shows a low battery warning when there are about 30 minutes of runtime left.

One of the features of the Mars 400 system is a channel scan function. Via the OLED display, you can see the status of each selectable transmission channel in the environment you're in. This feature lets you know which channels are good and which have interference. Another feature is scene mode selection, which allows you to select from three different scene modes as best suits your environment. The three modes let you prioritize between video quality, low latency, or a balance between the two.

The transmitter and receiver are each approximately 4.5 x 2.5" and have a robust yet lightweight metal housing.

Hollyland Mars 400 Reviews

Great product

I purchased two sets to use in church. Our church is small and in an area that is outside of the city however because of Covid we have had to upgrade these are great for our video ministry. They are to be used with our Atem mini pro and we will have to purchase two more sets to add the other two cameras. As soon as the budget allows. THEY ARE GREAT 5 Stars!!

Beware of Latency

The latency is bad if you use it to connect a camera into a video switcher for live productions combined with wired cameras. This is a weird piece of equipment. it's capable of receiving 1080p 29.97fps but it will only output 30fps instead. For me this was a problem. Anyways. I returned it.

Pro gear for low cost

I brought this for a multi cam event and it works as advertised. Setup was simple and easy, the video had no noticeable delay and converted my HDMI signal to an SDI one. The hot shoe adapter came with the system making it more easier to grip my camera. Will definitely use for future events!

Great easy wireless system!

These paired right out of the box with almost no setup. Compared to the Teredek systems I've used in the past, this is so much better for most uses. Reliable, easy, and affordable. Only drawback is a bit of latency that would make pulling focus remotely difficult, but for streaming to a client monitor, these are perfect.

Quality wireless transmission for a low price

These units are amazing. Solid transmission and no drop outs at the listed allowable distances. Generally these types of systems are reliant on line of sight but I have shut doors and hidden these with great results.

Low latency perfect for sports broadcasting

Very impressed with the ease of use and quality of this system. We have used it to live stream interviews during motorsports events. Some of the events, the audio from the microphone is not being transmitted over the camera but instead through a separate PA system. The latency on this wireless video system is so minimal, the audio and video have been in sync anyway. Connecting to the receiver is a breeze as well.

Wireless links, Work if you know what you're getting.

These things are nice and functional. Good price. There's a little delay on the video but not a show stopped. I have a few of these kits and they work well for us.

Does this have any compression on it? And how much? Does this work with the blackmagic mixers?
Asked by: Gift
Yes it does have compression. According to Hollyland their code rate is 8M-10M. For use with a production switcher you would want to look an uncompressed option like the Hollyland COSMO 600 Wireless HDMI/SDI Transmission System (L-Series) instead, BH #HOCOSMO600L.

How many of these can you run at once? Also if I were to use the Hollyland coms package (t1000) and have a few of these (let’s say 3) would they interfere?
Asked by: Josh
Hi Josh, you can run 3 units of Mars 400S at once.(Please keep the Receivers away from each other at least 0.5meter, and do not choose adjacent channels ) There will not have any interference with the Mars T1000, since the Mars 400S use 5G Wifi technology while the Mars T1000 is 5Ghz.
