Savage 20 Black Overview

Photograph people and products against a smooth, uncluttered background with this 53" x 18' roll of #20 Black Widetone Seamless Background Paper from Savage. To facilitate even lighting, the surface of the paper is non-reflective and has a fine-tooth finish. In addition to photography, the paper may be used for events, decorations, banners, and more. This black paper is the type used to create classic, clean black backgrounds.

The paper density is 100 pounds, or 145 gsm, an easy-to-handle resilient thickness of 7.6 mil, and comes wound on a core with a 2.125" interior diameter. A plastic sleeve protects the roll in transit and can be saved to provide continued protection when the paper is not in use. The paper should be stored vertically to reduce the possibility of warping and other damage. Photographers often use clamps to secure the paper to a backdrop stand as well as tape to secure the paper to the floor if rolled out for full-body shots. The paper is acid-free and 100% recyclable.

Due to the manufacturing process, it's not uncommon for sizes to fluctuate slightly. In most cases the amount of fluctuation won't matter.

Good quality. Received the wrong color. Needed black for the project I was working on. We ended up managing the color we received.

question

I have a section of an unfinished basement to practice photography and thought of getting some seamless paper. To both fit and give me the most options for my space, the 86 would work best. However, I see there are only four color options in that size (I only need black and white, so no issue there). However, is there any risk of this size eventually not being available in case I want to turn my basement into a studio for the long term? i.e. do you think an 86 option will be available for many years to come?
Asked by: Ricky
From our understanding, the 86 wide paper by Savage is a newer option and we have not heard of any plans they have of stopping production on this size.

I used ProMaster seamless paper in the past and was annoyed with how it didn't absorb (or reflect respectively) the lights and instead had annoying shiny spots and uneven background colors so I switched to muslin. Muslin has its own problems (I have no space to properly keep wrinkle free) so I'd like to try paper again. How well does this brand absorb the light? Or should I stick with fabric?
Asked by: Timothy
I think you will have the same experience with this seamless that you did with ProMaster. I have found the only way to avoid the Uneven background when using seamless paper is to shoot with the subject pretty far away from the background.

If I want to buy seamless paper background what is extra charges for shipping?

You may calculate your actual shipping options/order totals by adding the items you want to a shopping cart. It will then list the shipping options, descriptions, ETA's and fees to your location.

question

Can this be used with the Impact Deluxe Varipole System?
Asked by: Anurag
The Impact Varidrives included in the Impact Deluxe Varipole Support System can handle seamless rolls measuring up to 9' wide and weighing up to 22 lb. The Savage Widetone Seamless Background Paper (#20 Black, 140 x 105') is 11 ft 8 in long, and weighs 40 lbs. It would not be recommended for use with the Impact Deluxe Varipole Support System.

Can I use backdrop stand for this one
Asked by: YA IT'S
Yes, as long as you have enough space including room for lights (e.g., off to the side). You would need a reasonably sturdy background stand and I'd recommend sandbags be used to stabilize the upright poles.
