Especially sleek and impressively versatile, the black Canon EOS M200 blends a wide range of shooting capabilities with an everyday form factor. Sporting a 24.1MP APS-C CMOS sensor and DIGIC 8 image processor, the M200 enables high-resolution stills shooting along with a 6.1 fps continuous shooting rate and wide ISO 100-25600 sensitivity range to suit working in a variety of conditions. UHD 4K video recording is also supported, as well as in-camera 4K time-lapse movie production for a creative melding of stills and video. The sensor's design also facilitates Dual Pixel CMOS AF, which uses phase-detection autofocus for quick, accurate, and smooth performance to suit both stills and video use.

Complementing the imaging assets, the M200's slim design incorporates a 3.0" 1.04m-dot touchscreen LCD for intuitive shooting control. The screen has a 180° tilting design, too, to benefit selfie shooting as well as working from high and low angles. Additionally, built-in Wi-Fi with NFC allows for quick and convenient pairing with a smartphone or tablet for wireless image sharing, and Bluetooth is also featured for image sharing to and remote camera control from a mobile device.

24.1MP APS-C CMOS Sensor and DIGIC 8 Image Processor
Both a 24.1MP APS-C CMOS sensor and DIGIC 8 image processor are used to deliver high sensitivity and fast camera performance to suit both stills and video applications. A flexible ISO 100-25600 range suits working in a variety of lighting conditions, and the processing capabilities minimize noise and afford Auto Lighting Optimizer for notable clarity in various shooting situations. UHD 4K video recording is also supported at 23.98 fps, along with Full HD 1080p60 and HD 720p120 settings for slow motion recording. Additionally, the processor affords a 6.1 fps continuous shooting rate, fast camera startup time, and short interval times between each frame for a more intuitive and efficient shooting process.
Dual Pixel CMOS AF
Dual Pixel CMOS AF offers smooth and fast focusing performance in a similar manner to how a camcorder acquires focus. This system integrates two separate photodiodes within each pixel to provide a broad and dense network of phase-detection gathering elements across a majority of the image sensor to reduce focus hunting for faster, more direct control of focus placement. When working with still imagery, this focusing system works to acquire focus quickly and accurately, making it ideally suited to shooting and tracking moving subjects so that critical focus is attained with each shot. Eye Detection AF can also be used for portraiture and helps to prioritize focus on a subject's eye for ensured sharpness.

When shooting video, a Movie Servo AF mode offers smooth and natural focusing when changing from different subjects or different distances within the scene, as well as the ability to specify tracking sensitivity, AF speed, and Face Tracking priority. Benefited by the Touch AF system, rack focus is possible simply by touching elements within the scene on the touchscreen in order to change focus in an intuitive manner. Subject tracking in movies is also heightened due to the Dual Pixel CMOS AF system's ability to recognize subjects and maintain focus when working within changing or cluttered scenery.
Body Design and Wireless Connectivity
  • Large 3.0" touchscreen LCD provides an intuitive method for controlling focusing points, navigating menus, and reviewing imagery. This screen also features a 180° up, 45° down tilting design to better enable making self-portraits and to work from high and low angles.
  • Built-in Wi-Fi with NFC allows for easy wireless sharing of both photos and movies to a linked mobile device.
  • Bluetooth permits linking a smartphone or tablet for quick, automatic image sharing between devices as well as remote control capabilities.
  • Built-in pop-up flash provides additional illumination for working in low-light conditions.
  • Included LP-E12 battery provides approximately 315 shots per charge with normal settings or 485 shots per charge with Eco Mode on.
EOS Webcam Utility
Extending the capabilities of the camera, Canon's EOS Webcam Utility software lets you turn your camera into a versatile webcam by just connecting it to a computer via USB. Compatible with a variety of streaming apps, including ZOOM, YouTube Live, Microsoft Teams, and more, this software also maintains the ability to record internally while livestreaming.
Other Camera Features
  • Time-Lapse Movie mode creates finished 4K videos comprised of consecutively recorded stills with in-camera processing.
  • Vertical Video support permits recording in a vertical orientation to suit sharing videos on social media.
  • Dedicated Self Portrait mode incorporates a series of tools, such as skin smoothing, background blurring, and a customizable self-timer, to help produce perfect selfies.
  • Creative Assist makes it easy to see the effects of changing camera settings with real-time results displayed. This mode also lets you fine-tune brightness, contrast, and saturation with a dedicated menu.
  • Visual Guide and Feature Assistant explain and illustrate the various shooting modes in order to foster experimentation and a better understanding of the camera's capabilities.
  • Silent Mode virtually eliminates the shutter sound in order to prevent startling subjects or to permit working in noise-sensitive environments.
EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM Lens
Included with the camera body is the versatile standard zoom EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens, which provides a 24-72mm equivalent focal length range. Three aspherical elements help to control chromatic aberrations and distortions throughout the zoom range and an optimized lens placement works to reduce flare and ghosting. An Optical Image Stabilizer works to minimize the appearance of camera shake by up to 3.5 stops for sharper handheld shooting and an STM stepping motor provides fast, smooth, and near-silent autofocus performance.

Canon M200 Reviews

Great for the size, but...

I bought this Canon EOS M200 a few days ago. When I just got it, I was very pleased, because of the small size which made it really easy to carry around anywhere. Soon, however, I began noticing issues. The buttons felt cheap and wobbly. And although the tracking focus was great, the standard focus kept going in and out. The main problem was this: the camera overheated within 10 minutes while recording with FHD 30p inside a cool basement. The quality recording FHD is really poor. I would not like to think about the quality it records in HD! I would recommend spending the extra bucks to buy a Sony ZV-E10 or something in a higher price range. You get what you pay for, but it's not a lot. It's probably good if you just want something better than you phone, but definitely not as good as a professional camera. Pros: Light weight, image stabilization. Cons: Poor focus, heating up issues, low video quality, cheap feel, bad low light performance

The RX100 of Mirrorless Cameras

With mobile phone cameras become such terrific jeans pocket solutions, adding optical zoom too, this is real evolution to the next level. Especially with the Canon f2.0 22mm pancake lens, this mirrorless solution allows me to shoot with an APS-C sensor size and superior glass (especially zoom lenses) where most of the others are too limited (FZ-1) or insanely priced. The new RX100 is a $1200 camera with much lower light at the low end, sacrificed for the zoom. This solution allows me the best of both in just a little bit larger form factor. Get an aftermarket lens converter and you've got even more lenses from which to choose if you wish to bring them along - like my 300mm zoom I had bought for my old DSLR. I carry the camera with the pancake in my jacket pocket, with the kit lens barely fitting in my pocket, but with both lenses fitting into my very compact camcorder case. Limitations: vlogging outdoors, especially at 4K. This can do the job very well but no external microphone and headphone jack including 24p 4K recording may limit you, although most only do 30p 4K and this does 60p at HD, so it's perfectly fine for that purpose if you don't need the external microphone. The video shots I have are terrific but it's not as responsive as the FZ-1 for face tracking, etc. But it's not designed to address those needs. No viewfinder and no mode dial. The former may not be such an issue and you can focus using the touchscreen, as many do anyway. The lack of mode dial is baffling since there is already a dial that is mostly unused with just three positions - so everything is touchscreen based. I'm getting used to it but that is an oversight. As to the images - DSLR quality with these lenses and has that wonderful crispness I'd get from my RX100 but at 24MP and the ability of focusing and doing more with the touchstreen. This is the early beast in a jacket pocket that I think is just a hair smaller than many competitors (especially those with a view finder or hot shoe on top and that little size differential makes a huge difference between jacket pocket and no pocket option.

I really like this camera. Although it looks very simple, it packs all the manual settings I expected from a mirrorless. For now this will suffice my needs until I get better at photography, then I might consider stepping up to the M6 or another model with more control and better handling.

Terrific for Livestreaming with ONE caveat.

I have this very lightweight camera mounted on an armature and the video quality is fantastic. I've only just started out doing game livestreaming and I've already gotten compliments on its quality. ONE caveat I should mention is that setting the video capture to 60 fps makes it overheat for some reason, which is baffling to me as to why they'd even include it as an option, but anything at 30 fps or lower works perfectly fine. Love this thing!

I read many reviews about which DSLR was best to produce video content. This camera is right on, while it does not have an external mic shoe or jack, it is not necessary as the internal mic has stereo quality and is highly sensitive. Image quality is great and the little tripod/handheld w/ remote is quite handy for DIY. I just ordered a green screen, 66' tripod and lighting. I'm ready to produce-all at low price, fast delivery and exceptional quality!

Great Budget Camera For Those Getting Into Photography

This is a great camera for beginner photographers looking for a great camera under $1,000. It is easy to understand, and people with previous experience with a camera will understand it easily. Out of the box, I took some of my best photos of my family and it focuses very easily; the FHD and high-speed video settings are great too. I use it for family photos, night photography, and general photos of things.

Unfortunately, the Canon EOS M200 does not offer an external microphone port. What you can use is a Zoom H1n 2-Input / 2-Track Portable Handy Recorder with Onboard X/Y Microphone (Gray), BH # ZOH1NG to record the audio separately then sync it in post. https://bhpho.to/3OD5WM5

Asked by: Tom
As long as you're not recording. Unlike camcorders this camera has a 30 minute recording limit to prevent from overheating. You also won't get the same zoom range a camcorder gives you. This is better image quality than a camcorder but not without it's drawbacks.
