Constant f/2.8 Aperture
Bright f/2.8 constant maximum aperture maintains consistent illumination throughout the zoom range and suits working in low-light conditions as well as affords increased control over depth of field for working with selective focus techniques.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.
The front and rear elements feature a protective Fluorine coating to resist fingerprints and smudges and to make cleaning significantly easier.
Advanced Optical Design
One UD (Ultra-Low Dispersion) element and one Super UD element help to minimize chromatic aberrations and color fringing in order to provide greater clarity and color accuracy.
Two aspherical elements are used to correct spherical aberrations and distortion for improved sharpness and accurate rendering.
An Air Sphere Coating (ASC) has been applied to lens elements to reduce backlit flaring and ghosting for maintained light transmission and high contrast in strong lighting conditions.
Dual Nano USM AF System
Dual Nano USM system utilizes both a ring type USM and an STM mechanism to realize quick and accurate focusing.
Smooth and nearly silent autofocus suits both photography and video applications.
Full-time manual focus control available when working in the one-shot AF mode.
Optical Image Stabilization
An Optical Image Stabilizer helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by five stops.
Enables working in low-light conditions and with slower shutter speeds.
Three discrete IS modes are available: standard single-shot mode, a panning-optimized mode, and a mode that only activates the Image Stabilizer during the exposure.
Customizable Control Ring
Configurable Control Ring can be used to adjust a variety of exposure settings, including aperture, ISO, and exposure compensation.
image Stabilizer switch and Stabilizer Mode Selector switch.
Rugged, Weather-Resistant Design
Weather-resistant design protects against dust and moisture to enable use in inclement conditions.
L-Series level vibration shock resistance in the lens barrel, helping to maintain focus and settings even in turbulent situations.
Rotating Tripod Collar
Removable rotating tripod collar is included and benefits working with the lens atop a tripod or monopod.

My Favorite Lens for Nature Photography

My old EF 70-200 f/4L lens was my favorite for 20 years, it's focal range matched the best for how I see nature and the world. When I upgraded my gear to RF, I decided to try f/2.8 for a chance to explore even more blur and bokeh in my nature photography, and this lens has delivered fabulously. I love to isolate parts of the landscape with this lens, or focus more closely on plants and flowers for an artistic interpretation (which the relatively short MFD allows!). I could have instead upgraded my old EF 100mm macro lens, but I see this lens as far more versatile for my needs. I love the compact size! I can see this becoming my overall favorite and most-used lens. Photos illustrate where I explore the limits of this lens for the kinds of photography I like to do.
Monopod Shooters Beware

Purchased this lens prior to the new version coming out. The tripod ring pops off the lens if any force is put on the tripod ring. Horrible if you mostly shoot with a monopod. I've had this lens fall off MULTIPLE times due to this crucial design flaw. Canon needs to have a tripod ring that locks in place - not one held by tension. Now, I just have an expensive paperweight.

Asked by: Xiang
No. This lens is not interchangeable with EF teleconverters. For the same reason this lens can NOT be mounted to a DSLR (EF mount) camera. This is a brand new mount, RF.

Unfortunately, no. This is an RF mount lens, which are only compatible with Canon mirrorless "R" series cameras. Your camera (think you mean 5D) is an EF mount, meaning it is compatible with any EF lenses (of which there is a huge selection). The EF mount 70-200mm f2.8 is a wonderful lens, and actually cheaper. The main difference (besides the mentioned lens mount and compatibility differences) is that the EF version is internal zoom, meaning the lens barrel does not extend when zooming. Some believe this is better for weather/dust proofing. The RF version extends when zooming, which makes the lens significantly lighter, and also smaller when retracted.

The focus ring on the Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM Lens is about 90mm so this Cavision gear would fit nicely: https://bhpho.to/3FPR4I5
