Acratech GXP with Lever Overview

The lightweight 1 lb GXP Ball Head with Lever Clamp from Acratech has a 3-in-1 feature designed to have two more functions other than just your conventional ball head. The Arca-type clamp on the head is removable from its stem, and it is mountable in the reverse to the base of the ball head. With the clamp removed, the ball head's stem has the same 3/8"-16 mount as the base, which includes a reducer bushing. The clamp itself has a single bubble level that allows you to balance and level out the ball. At the same time, you can unlock the independent pan lock and rotate lenses as large as 400mm and equipment weighing up to 50 lb. Together with a laser-engraved numbered scale, you can precisely create panoramic images by turning the ball head at incremental stops.

Converting the head back to a normal functioning ball head, you can increase or decrease the ball's tension via its separate tension control knob. Moving the clamp to a 90° angle enables you to use the head as a gimbal with long telephoto lenses that have tripod feet. The top of the clamp is also laser engraved with a scale, which allows you to balance a telephoto lens when at a 90° angle, and a detent pin located inside the clamp prevents the lens from sliding out if the lever locking mechanism is accidentally opened.

This is a a very, very well made ballhead that looks and feels like a premium product. I have used it for one year and it has performed flawlessly! I even took it last week for a shooting where I spent 2 hours outside (in temperatures of -30 degrees) and the ballhead was totally fine. It is just a great piece of gear that will last you a lifetime. Overall I am really, really happy with it.

Great ball head that can do a lot and very lightweight. only better would be a cheaper price. Could use a neoprene cover even if advertised it will work if run over by a truck.

The clamping action is very smooth and easy. Positioning adjusts easily. Make sure the clamp is securely fastened to the ball when it arrives. This unit replaces a well used RRS BH-40 and I'm glad I got it.

love it

I've got two questions; Will a RRS L Bracket fit this without no issues? What tripod legs would you recommend would be best for this head ?
Asked by: Albert
Yes, a RRS L-Bracket would fit the Acratech GXP Ball Head with Lever Clamp. The Ball Head has a universal 3/8"-16 Female connection point on bottom and so can mount on any tripod. Every application is unique, and the best tripod legs will vary based on the application.
