Spanning a versatile range of telephoto focal lengths, this zoom is well-suited for working with distant subjects as well as portraiture applications. Its reach is also benefitted by Vibration Reduction image stabilization, which minimizes the appearance of camera shake by up to 5 stops for sharper handheld shooting. A stepping motor provides quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override to suit both stills and video applications. Also, a programmable control ring can be set for intuitive adjustment over a variety of camera and exposure settings.

Telephoto zoom is designed for DX-format Nikon Z-mount mirrorless cameras and provides a 75-375mm equivalent focal length range.
One extra-low dispersion element reduces color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity and color accuracy.
Super Integrated Coating suppresses flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions.
Stepping motor delivers impressively smooth, quiet, and fast autofocus performance that is well-suited to both stills and video applications. Full-time manual focus override is also possible and an internal focusing design is used, where only the internal lens groups are moved during focusing, to maintain the overall length of the lens during use and to promote faster focusing speeds.
Vibration Reduction image stabilization minimizes the appearance of camera shake by up to 5 stops for sharper handheld shooting.
Programmable Control Ring is, by default, set to adjust manual focus but can also be used to control aperture or exposure compensation.
Specialized electromagnetic aperture mechanism provides greater exposure control stability that is especially beneficial when working with fast continuous shooting rates.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field techniques.

Nikon NIKKOR Z DX 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3 VR Reviews

Great lens for the price

I use this lens a lot and it does a pretty good job overall. I wish it had more reach, but for the price, it pairs well with the Z-50.

I should buy another, they are amazing!

I own a LOT of Nikon lenses. For what this lens costs it is simply amazing. I cannot think of one lens except the Nikon 200-500 F 5.6 that compares to this for value. BUT the 200-500 is a F Mount lens. this is a Z mount lens. Nikon NEEDS to get with it and make the Z mount 200-600 Non S lens available quickly. Right now this 50-250 DX lens is the end of the line for cost efficient Z Mount lens.

This lens is value for money

Yeah, can't afford the f2.8 S lens. The reviews indicated that this was a good lens and on a trip to Pittsburgh got to try it out on a barge tug on the Mon. Sharp and bright across the full zoom range. Wish it came with a lens hood but the Sensei 62mm snap on is working well and didn't cost much.

Excellent lens

I already owned this lens that was a part of the Z 50 kit. When I purchased the Zfc I was able to bundle the lens at a very reasonable price that I could not pass up. So now I have two of them. That must tell you something I think about the lens. If I decided to sell one later, would probably break even.

Great for the size and price

I got this in a bundle with a Zfc and the 12-50 for $100 off its individual price which is already a good deal that made it a great deal. I've actually been using it more often on my Z7 in crop mode than the 70-300E and FTZ because it is a more compact and lighter lens that fits with the camera inside my small shoulder bag. The IQ is a bit less than the 70-300Fx lens but still very good and at 20mp perfectly adequate. My biggest complaint is it doesn't ship with a lens hood which must be purchased separately.

A lot better than the 16-50 kit

I bought this to go on our new Z fc and it works great. Sharp, very sharp for such a zoom, quick and super light weight.

Terrific. Sharp, Light Weight

And with VR image stabilization. Nikon is too chintzy to include a hood so a not supplied version can be yours for $34 extra.

Outstanding!

While Nikon touts on its website that the NIKKOR Z DX 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3 VR has the most effective Vibration Reduction (VR) image stabilization system of any NIKKOR yet (up to 5 stops), all I can say is that in my personal experience I was able to handhold an exposure of 1/10th second at 250mm (equivalent 375mm) with the lens mounted on the Nikon Z50. Razor sharp. The AF system works extremely well, and even makes using Manual Focus super easy and convenient. This lens and the (Z DX 16-50mm) kit lens are obviously designed to work together seamlessly on the Nikon Z50. The 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3 lens exhibits superb sharpness and contrast, and renders out of focus backgrounds (bokeh) with a very smooth and pleasant appearance, although it has a maximum aperture of f/6.3 at 250mm. One of the undeniably annoying characteristics of the NIKKOR Z DX 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3 VR is the need to unlock the lens before it can be used. It definitely slows down the process of photographing. Nikon has also implemented this annoying characteristic on the smaller kit lens, the Z DX 16-50mm (which also has outstanding image quality). The NIKKOR Z DX 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3 VR is light in weight although very plasticky, and when it is collapsed does rattle slightly. The rattle does not seem to indicate a problem with the lens. Due to its light weight the lens balances perfectly on the Z50, even when fully extended to 250mm. All in all this lens is outstanding with great image quality. The worst thing about the NIKKOR Z DX 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3 VR is that Nikon does NOT include a lens hood, which you will definitely need, and they charge $35 separately for it; but you can get around that by using one from VELLO ( HB-90A) at B&H for less than half the Nikon price.

Yes. See my review for a sample picture with this lens on the Z6. The crop makes it a 10MP camera but that is fine for a lot of work.

What is the difference between this and the S series Zmount lenses?
Asked by: Ryan
This is a Z-mount DX lens that will work fine on a Z6 or Z7-- It will not, however, utilize the entire sensor. You can expect a little more that 19 megapixels of resolution when its attached to the 45 megapixel Z7. Very early reviews describe it as an excellent inexpensive lens. It will not be as sharp or as well built as an S (professional) lens but it seems like a great lens to own for comparatively very little money.
