Nice little lens!
Wanted a small light 35m for travel and general walking around, as my Sony GM's are large and heavy. Its small and light. Ive only shot maybe 50 pics, most look pretty good. As others have said, a bit slow on the AF and also somewhat noisy. But at $199, cant beat it!
Does the job
This lens is actually pretty decent for walk-around. Although not as good as any Sony prime, it has its moments. It's definitely worth It's price. Good sharpness and nice contrast.
Hits above it's price
Overall this is an excellent lens. It's a very sharp lens. You will read comments regarding it's lightweight build & slowish AF. It is very light, but feels good. The AF is perfectly fine in most cases. It will hunt in very low light but then again so will most lenses. The noise is not nearly as loud as many say. Yes, you can hear it. And that might be an issue for video. But anything else it's fine. Keeping in mind the price, you can't go wrong with this lens.

B&H should tell you that there is a known issue with all the Tamron primes they don't work with the Sony a7iv. now I have to return it
Amazing image quality, slow focus
This lens is amazing for the price as it punches above its class on image quality giving the user very good contrasty images while also being impressively sharp! The Macro functionality and weather sealing are a definite plus! But it does have its cons. Firstly its struggles to achieve focus in low light, theres quite alot of hunting as well. Sometimes it will lose focus and wont achieve focus again until i point the camera elsewhere and achieve focus again. AF speed is slow even in good light definitely not an action lens.
Sharper than th Sigma 30mm 1.4
I have a decent amount of exp. with the Sigma 30mm 1.4 and no doubt it is a good lens. However. If you don't need the extra low light performance, go for this one instead. At $50 less and with free overnight, you CANNOT say no! This thing is super sharp and even only being at F2.8 it still does decent in low light! While this is a full frame lens it of course works perfectly fine on my A6000. So it's more like.. 52mm iirc? For beginners/amateurs it's hard to say no to for photography
Go-to lens for stills
I take mostly pictures of stills, so the frequent complaints about autofocus have not bothered me. This has become my go-to lens for hikes in the mountains, walks around town, the backyard, and just about anything else that does not move. Its close-up capability allows me to switch immediately from landscapes to flowers and back. It is plenty sharp over the whole distance range, as well as from center to edge. My only gripe is the overly tight fit on the A7III (shared with its 24mm cousin).
Bang for your Buck
Brutally sharp w/ great contrast and a pretty solid build (even if it is hard plastic). If manually focusing, it's so razor thin and sharp on the focus draw that it's easy to miss, so auto-focus is pretty much necessary Also, the auto-focus is horrible if left to its own devices, but here's a tip: Put your focus mode on AF-C or DMF and press that shutter button down a hair. I just did 2 events, got 2500 pictures and of that number 2200 were quickly focused on and sharp as a button. Then and o0nly then is it really good, great for the price, and you can shoot without fear. SO SET IT UP! Great lens and I'm definitely buying the 24mm next.
