By B&H Photo's
Fast Aperture Wide Angle to Portrait-Length Lens
As part of the Art line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens is designed to achieve truly notable optical performance and is ideally suited for creative and artistic applications. It features a constant f/2.8 maximum aperture that is well-suited for working in available light conditions and provides greater control over depth of field when using shallow depth of field techniques.
Full-Frame and APS-C Compatible Autofocus Lens
  • Standard zoom is designed for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras but can also be used with APS-C-format models, where it will provide a 36-105mm equivalent focal length range.
  • Integrated stepping motor realizes quick and quiet autofocus, which is further complemented by an optimized AF algorithm to produce smoother focusing performance.
Sophisticated Optical Design
  • Six F Low Dispersion (FLD) and two Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements markedly reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing throughout the zoom range for improved clarity and color accuracy.
  • Three aspherical elements control spherical aberrations and distortion for increased sharpness and accurate rendering.
  • Super Multi-Layer and Nano Porous Coatings have been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions.
    Close Focus with Pleasing Bokeh
    • At the wide-angle end of the zoom range, a minimum focusing distance of 7.1" is possible with a maximum magnification of 1:2.9 to suit working with close-up subjects.
    • At the telephoto end, the minimum focusing distance is 1.25' with a maximum magnification of 1:4.5.
    • The rounded 11-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.
    Lens Features
    • Integrated AF-L button can be programmed to adjust various shooting settings and the lens also features a dedicated AF/MF switch and a zoom lock switch to prevent the barrel from accidentally extended.
    • Integrated stepping motor achieves quick and quiet autofocus, which is further complemented by an optimized AF algorithm to produce smoother focusing performance.
    Durable
    • A chrome-plated brass bayonet lens mount affords improved mounting accuracy and rigidity.
    • Rubber seals are incorporated in the mount's design to render it dust- and splash-resistant, making it ready to create images even on location in harsh environments.

      Great lens

I have only had this lens for a little while, but love everything about it. For the price you can't beat it. All the features of the Sony but at a price point I can afford. Sony, take note!

      Dust = expensive paperweight

This lens was rarely used and stored with front and rear caps. I suspected that when we zoom the lens, dust came into the lens and sat right behind the front element. With all of this dust, it's not an issue IF it will affect image quality, it's a matter of when it will affect image quality. Imagine shooting stopped down and all of this dust shows up on product shoot, portrait shoot and video shoot. Imagine if you cannot clean the dust up due to the nature of the subject being shot. That's why I considered this lens an expensive paperweight. It should have never passed production engineering.

Sharp optics, fast f2.8 for the full range of zoom, and half the price of the native glass. Fast and accurate autofocus. Quality build, feels very solid. I love this lens.

      Who'd rate this 5-Stars?

I purchased this lens from YouTuber Jason Vong because it had received such good praise on many reviews. It wasn't until a few months later that I noticed a bunch of dust in the lens. I Googled the problem and realized that it was a design flaw. The dust slips in through the zoom ring. Since I bought it used several months ago, I didn't have a receipt or anything to file a warranty claim. I later found a YouTube video showing how to clean it. I did. But now sometimes the lens does something that I've never seen before. It's like focus breathing but instead, it's zoom breathing. It will glitch and zoom in and out by itself on the monitor without touching the zoom ring. It's not the camera. This is the only lens I've had this problem with. In my opinion, it's as good as garbage. There's no way I'm going to shoot any work for my clients with this lens going forward.

Does this lens have zoom creep? Specifically for using on a copy stand.
      Asked by: Ben
My copy does not have zoom creep when the camera is held steady and pointed straight up or down. If the camera is also shaken vertically, it does have zoom creep. The zoom lock is only available at 24mm.
