BenQ EW3280U Reviews

Great Monitor for the Price, but not perfect.

This morning has really nice color and good brightness for most use. Not quite as sharp as my 5k iMac, but overall works great, and has acceptable resolution. My only gripe is the remote, which sort of works but most of the buttons don't respond. I would knock it a star for that, but most monitors don't even come with one, so I will give it a pass.

Second review after 5 months of use

) Although at first I very much liked this monitor, after 5 months of use it does not work as expected at all. CONS: Extreme linearity issues - lines and fonts of the same weight display very differently in different regions of the screen. This may not be an issue for general use, but makes this monitor unusable for graphic design. This is extremely bothersome as one needs to constantly double check lines/font weights to ensure they are the same. BenQ support indicated that the linearity issue is to be expected on this type of monitor. I wish they have mentioned this problem on their specs. Luminance uniformity - variations to up to 22% on the upper left corner of the display. Connectivity issues when using adapters - If you are connecting this monitor to an older Mac and use an adapter (i.e. TB2 to USB-C) the monitor will not work at all. This issue has been confirmed by BenQ - you can't use adapters to connect this monitor to your computer. Terrible monitor stand with very limited adjustments. For this monitor size one would expect a better stand. I ended up buying an Ergotron stand (BH #ER45241026) which is fantastic. Pros: good amount of connectivity options (HDMI, mini-display port, USB-C/TB3 USB-C/TB 3 port provides enough power to charge MBP Descent internal speakers (not great, but descent enough) Bottom line, I think this is an OK monitor for general use, however at $800 it seems rather expensive for a general office use monitor.

Very good first impressions

Pros:  Very good IQ out of the box Multiple picture settings Easy set up Multifunction remote control (most feature can be accessed via the remote) Internal power supply (not more power supply brick around the desk) USB-C port provides enough power to charge MacBook Pro 16 Internal Speakers - better than expected quality for built-in speakers Cons: Wobbly stand with zero adjustments besides a bit of tilting Ports (HDMI, USB etc) are very difficult to access No USB hub (not a big deal as the UBC-C port provides enough power to the MBP) The minus one star is mostly because of the stand. I only had this monitor for a few hours and I definitely like it. Overall, this seems to be an excellent monitor and reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend it.

Awesome in every way!

I was looking for an overall good monitor (large, great picture quality, 4K, built in speakers) at a reasonable price, so I order this and love it!

Beautiful Monitor

Needed to upgrade from an 11 year old iMac and this provides me with much more added real estate for working! Maybe it's because I'm a little older, but the monitor is humongous! Surprised me a bit. Easy to assemble and hook up-too me a handful of minutes! Pretty much plug-and-play and I was ready to go! I've used it for a couple weeks now and I have no regrets. Screen can be BRIGHT, but I just messed with the settings and I was fine!

Happy here

I would recommend the PD or SW series for photographers. If you decide on the EW3280U I would recommend using DCI P3 color space for your entire work flow.

How sharp is the image and what is the framerate ...

How sharp is the image and what is the framerate at non-native lower resolutions? Looking at other BenQ models like the BenQ PD3200U, reviews suggest that the monitor's scaling/interpolation blurs the image a little. I assume this is unavoidable, but am curious how it works for this and other new monitors.
Asked by: Karl
Depending on the connection type and the resolution the frame rate can range from 30Hz to 75Hz. At less that native resolution you will run into issues of more than one pixel being used to represent what should be one pixel and that can reduce the sharpness of the image.
