The Polyend Poly 2 is an 8-voice polyphonic Eurorack-compatible MIDI-to-CV converting module with two USB inputs, 20 analog patch points, and an OLED screen for saving presets, configuring the CV outputs, and additional functions including multiple play modes and scale filtering.
The 14 HP module offers two USB inputs, one to connect to your computer or phone, and a second—labeled USB Host—that connects to a MIDI controller. The Host USB port also offers a 5V option for power-hungry external gear and the unit supports MPE for additional performance expression from MPE-enabled controllers like the Roli Seaboard, Joué Board, and others.
The Poly 2 can convert up to eight MIDI voices to CV at once and offers a SmartThru MIDI function that allows you to chain multiple Poly 2 modules for more voices and outputs. The OLED screen and menu system gives you access to settings and parameters for a wealth of flexible options, including five different play modes, which you can use to customize the response from incoming MIDI notes. The Channel mode, for example, routes notes from a set MIDI channel to a set output voice, great for sequencing with a DAW. The Notes mode allows you to trigger your modular setup with drum triggers, while the Next mode lets you play chords on your modular rig or experiment with an MPE controller.
The scale filter is a smart feature that can help you get more musical results from your setup by replacing notes that aren't in the scale with the closest one that fits. There are two settings: Type offers you a selection of 39 different scale filters, while Root sets the scale root note.
Depending on how many MIDI voices you're using, up to 12 customizable CV outputs are available, allowing you to translate incoming MIDI information such as velocity, note, clock, and CC messages into CV and gate signals, opening up even more possibilites.
