PolarPro BaseCamp Reviews
Very nice lightweight system.
If you're looking for an inexpensive lightweight all-in one system, this one is hard to beat.
GREAT MATTE BOX WITH A COUPLE IRKY THINGS
First of all this matte box is slick, the design is amazing!!! The box it came with is a work of art Amazing!! the quality of the glass and matte box is great. It is lightweight, the build quality is top notch. Also when you order from POLAR PRO DIRECTLY they give you the 6-9 nd for free. The only thing I don't like about this is the fact that when you use the ND at its darkest value you get the X showing.
Best matte box for the price!!
Light weight and easy to use with no tools required and looks great with the gold accent. The quality of the variable ND is top notch!! There's little to no Vignetting
Exceeds Expectations
This thing is super light weight and very well built. Can easily mount on a gimbal camera. The design is very well thought out and is the perfect solution for a vari ND
Surprising new addition
I was always apprehensive using my dslr outdoors without built-in ND. This fixes all the things.
The best Variable ND
The best Variable ND I have ever purchased, Light weight, does the job and nice finish.
It's so freaking light weight!
Love this kit. I film wildlife with a A7s3 and a Sony 200-600 rig and this is perfect specially the inbuilt polariser. I often film birds and wildlife around lakes, the rotating polariser and the ND works great controlling all the reflections and more importantly it's so freaking light I also use it for my DJI RS2 gimbal shots with cine lenses!
Great system just not for me (run and gun videography)
I bought the default base camp matte box system when buying my FX3 kit a few months ago over a regular screw on VND filter kit because I thought I would like this more... and I was wrong and slightly regret it after seeing Freewell's magnetic VND mist 7-1 system. Pros: + Built amazingly clean and durable + Drop in and out filter ecosystem + Nice case comes with and packaging + Can attach to common cine lens diameters + Basically no vignette (if directly on lens) + Well designed ecosystem of filters and accessories for target consumer Cons: - No hard stops to indicate when cross polarization is about to come in cross (very annoying and my biggest gripe about it) - A non-stop Turn dial that has no exposure markings (2nd biggest gripe) - A bit of a pricey filter/accessories ecosystem to get the 2nd filter extension unit, a mist and 6-9vnd will set you well over $1k - not fun to carry if you want to keep everything minimal in cases. Takes up space Conclusion: My fault for picking this up I should of thought it out more. Not the best system for running on lighter rigs like the FX3 or A7siii unless your going to rig them up big big into cinema cameras or put them on drones or something. if you are working with cinema cameras on a regular this may be perfect for you. The biggest thing you will notice is the lack of indications on the filters telling you when it will cross polarize and the exposure but if you are okay with not having that or hard stops then it sounds like a good deal. For me I will be returning it and going back to the screw on filters by polar pro or free-well way better to be running and gunning for weddings and collecting B-roll for clients even tho they won't see a beefy matte box and be wowed
