The light beige B2D Directional Lavalier Mic, Low Gain, with Detachable 3-Pin XLR Connector Cable for Select 3-Pin XLR Devices from Countryman features a lightweight 0.18-ounce body that was designed to be discreetly mounted and can be used for miking news anchors, actors in a film or theater setting, lecturers in a school or house of worship type environment.

The B2D's tight hypercardioid pattern gives the mic an extra 6-10 dB of headroom compared to an omnidirectional lavalier mic, which means less problems with feedback, ambient noise, room rumble, and phase cancellations when using multiple microphones.

This version offers the lowest gain for powerful vocals such as in opera, which requires a higher overload level. In addition, the B2D lavalier is equipped with a detachable cable that terminates to a 3-Pin XLR connector for direct connection to Select 3-Pin XLR mixers, recorders, and other devices with an XLR connection.

Positioning the B2D
With its small size and sensitivity options, the B2D can easily hide behind a shirt button. This makes it invisible for film work, theater, live shows, or any other application.
Great for Broadcast
Natural vocal reproduction and a tight polar pattern make the B2D ideal for broadcast and is a dependable workhorse you can count on to perform night after night.
Isolation Clips
The isolation clips minimize clothing and vibration noise while allowing 360° of rotation for easy positioning of the microphone.
Frequency Response
This microphone is tuned to a frequency response that is natural and intelligible at a wide range of distances from the mouth. It delivers wonderful sound quality on the chest (8-10" from the mouth) or towards the collar (3-4").
Sensitivity
Low (blue band, -20 dB re W4) for operatic vocals

Countryman B2D Reviews

Excellent Sound, Shoddy Clip

By Low Beam Pictures
Rated 4 out of 5

The B2D works great for capturing location sound in a noisy location. In that application, attaching the microphone to the talent's skin works well. But when using the clip to attach to clothing, you have to do a lot of twisting and compressing. I had to call Countryman Associates to tell me how to do it. Additionally, the swiveling part of the clip comes apart. It can be put back together with determined effort, but this is not the kind of thing you want to do on location.
