Moza Slypod Overview

An aluminum-made follow-up to the original Slypod, the Moza Slypod E is a motorized monopod designed to be mounted horizontally or vertically. It's very compact at 1.9", and it telescopes out a travel distance of 11". Via onboard buttons, 10 different motion speeds can be selected, from an ultra-slow speed of just 0.15mm per second to the maximum speed of 1.1" per second. In the companion iOS/Android app, 100 different speeds can be selected within this range. The motor is near-silent at the slowest speeds. In the app, you can also set up assigned travel routes, time-lapse capture, and much more.

Since the Slypod E can be mounted on a tripod horizontally or vertically, it can be set up to perform motorized dolly, track, and boom shots. It has a safety payload of 9 lb horizontally and 20 lb vertically. A mounting plate is built-in along its length with 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 mounting threads, and that's how the Slypod E attaches to tripods horizontally. A 1/4"-20 threaded hole provided on the bottom allows for vertical mounting.

The Slypod E is powered by an internal battery that runs for approximately two hours and is recharged in about three hours. It's rechargeable via a USB Type-C port using an included cable. An LED ring on the bottom lights up different colors to confirm battery status.

An adapter is included for attaching a camera on the end. However, you can also mount a handheld gimbal onto this adapter in order to combine the pan/tilt/roll motion of the gimbal with the motorized motion of the Slypod E.

Note:
The companion app is iOS and Android compatible, but currently the Samsung Galaxy S10 and select other Samsung and LG phones are not supported. Moza says an update is in the works.

I bought one of these and used it twice and then it bricked on me. Just stopped working. I reached out to Moza and was told, literally, it sounds like it's broken. We can give you 10% off a new one. That's it. No repair option; nothing. Do NOT BUY!!

Flimsy.

First impressions: The packaging was perfect, but the carrying case within had a dent in it, this means it’s was either a returned item or damaged from the factory. Inside the case none of the items were in their slots or wrapped in plastic. There was also several scratches on the Slypod body itself. Usage Review: This design seems like a good idea on paper but doesn’t pan out in person. I bought it knowing it would be a specialized piece of gear that can only do a couple things well. Well, those things are rendered useless by the proprietary mount at the end/top of the slider. This mount has a whole lot of play in it and no mechanism for tightening. The included legs can’t even firmly support the weight of Slypod let alone with a camera attached. The only part of the Slypod that impressed me was the strength of the motor with it easily lifting my fully rigged camera. Overall: It took only 10 minutes out of the box for me to know this was going right back for return.

I was using a competitive product previously for run-n-gun work that was more of a traditional slider format. The Slypod has more length than the under 8 I was previously limited to and the fact it sits on the end on a ball head means I can get pseudo-overhead dolly moves and vertical moves easily without seeing the track. While I got the optional remote control for it, the buttons on the end of the Slypod allow you to get it moving without even having the app open. Lastly, it doubles as a monopod, so it is easy to pull it out, use the extend button to raise it to its limit and screw on the included tripod on the bottom to operate it in monopod-mode.

This slider is unique..... It’s offering a lot of new possibilities and angles. It’s smooth and the application is great and stable. I’m using the slider with a Sony A6500 with cage and it’s performing well. Received the skypod with some scratches on the body but it’s ok.

only for B roll. the thing sounds like a robot opening a door. It's not too expensive is very portable however you can't really use it in an interview unless subject is quite a ways away. It has it's limitations however it works well.

It's a nice tool to have to get those steady cinematic shots. It's durable and extremely portable. BEWARE if you have to record audio it is impossible to use this, it makes a very loud sound would recommend for B roll shots only.
