If it was howling out, it would not be too good, but it does work. I have recorded outdoors twice now, and like how this cuts MUC of the wind noise out. If there's a breeze, I hear nothing, if there's strong wind or a gust, there is an audible, I don't know, throb but nothing too bad ,and a LOT better than the regualr foam thing you get with the mic. n I liek it a lot. Worth the money, if over priced.

If you have the VideoMic NTG and use it for outside shooting you definitely need it. It truly makes a differences on the audio quality,

So this particular windscreen isn't the standard fuzzy condom design of simple sewn fabric. Rather than what was released for previous VideoMic models to slip over the existing branded foam covers, this has a molded plastic ring to accept the uncovered shotgun mic barrel of the NTG. It seems to hold snug through lots of shaking, thus ensuring staying put in actual wind while out on the end of a boom. The one-star deduction is for the price of this little unit and the fact that the original box should be kept as its protective case, with no other cover provided -- this unit can be crushed because of the extra construction detail. It won't store flat or folded like the simpler dead cat models.

Very effective. Nice that it is smaller in my bag than the fuzzy for the Video Mic Pro +.

Does this fit over the regular foam windscreen included with the mic or is made with the foam integrated with the furry similar to the rode videomicro's? Thanks!
Rode's dead cats don't fit their microphones with the foam attached to them. You need to take the foam of the mic to be able to put these kind of Windshield like the WS11.
Rode WS11 is excellent quality.

The WS11 windshield is specifically designed to fit the Rode VideoMic NTG which has a 21.6mm diameter and is 171mm long. The Sony ECM-XM1 has a 21mm diameter and is 162mm long. It is possible that the WS11 may fit the ECM-XM1, but we have not tested it with the Sony mic to be able to confirm that it will fit correctly. Rycote makes the Rode windshields and they list the Rycote Mini Windjammer Special 105 (B&H # RYMWS105) and the Rycote Standard Hole Softie Windscreen with 19-22mm (0.74-0.87") Hole Size (B&H # RYS10M) as the compatible models to use with the ECM-XM1. As another compatible option, you can use the Auray WSR-2012 Stuffed Rabbit Windscreen for Shotgun Microphones - 12 cm (B&H # AUWSR201).
