So far it's perfect. The design with the built in handle is gorgeous. This is the best RAID design I've ever seen. I'm still waiting for my new Mac Studio to know how the two will work together. According to G-Tech's website, there's a work-around that will allow it to work with M1 Macs. I'll know more when I get my new Mac...

When larger disks become available, will they be compatible with this array, so that one can expand the overall storage size of the array? Is 32TB the physical or available volume of the array?
Asked by: Dario
Right now, the largest they offer is 56TB. I am sure that larger options will be available as the drives become available again.

What is the additional silver port, included in the box, for? Is this a replacement bay for SSD?
Asked by: David
The system itself, will come with 8 removable solid state drive modules. It won't come with 8 additional removable SSD modules. This is practically the bracket that holds the SSD in the chassis. If you need to replace a SSD, you will take the old SSD from the bracket and replace it with a new one.

The G-Technology 32TB G-SPEED Shuttle is manufactured for use in the United States, so it will not include any other plug aside from a grounded US 3 prong plug.

Can we replace the shuttle ssd when it’s full for another one?
Asked by: Alvin
Based on the RAID setting you will set this system up, will determine if you can replace a drive before removing it. Overall, if you remove all 8 bays, you can start with new drives in this system, once the first batch is full.

Are you able to replace the SSDs with any third party 2.5" module?

Yes but being a RAID you want to be sure to use equal capacity (SATA) SSDs over all the drives and only up to a max of 4TB per drive.

Unfortunately, in our inventory, we don't have G-Technology Spare SSD drives for this enclosure. For best compatibility, I would contact G-Technology directly. You can contact them at 1-(888) 426-5214 or at [email protected]

I have the older HDD version of this unit with double EV drives and they look structurally identical. Would it be possible to replace my HDDs with the SSDs used in this unit or is that just wishful thinking?
Asked by: Jonathan
Most likely- yes. I havent personally tried it with these ssd inserts, but I have replaced the ev units in my old hardware with HDs and it works fine. There shouldnt be any issue mixing HD and SSD as some comments here suggest, since the gtech raid utility allows you to raid and partition drives separately. For instance, you can set up your gtech system to use bay 1 and 2 in raid-1, bay 3 in raid-0, and bays 4-8 in raid-5. The only real restriction Ive found is theres a firmware block on using EV shuttles in og drive slots.
