Can this drive be removed from its housing and installed internally w/ SATA into a desktop? If so, other than obvious warranty voiding, is there any disadvantage to doing so?

Yes you certainly could do it but cost is huge reason why you shouldn’t do that your paying premium for the housing that you’ll void so not sure why you would ever do it that way.

Yes, any USB 3.0 will fit into a USB 2.0, You just won't get the high transfer speeds that the G drive is capable of. If you only have a USB 2.0 then a Western Digital drive would be smaller and less expensive. However that said I rely liked the G-Drive.
