Sony MRW-G1 Overview

Facilitating fast file transfers up to 10 Gb/s, the Sony MRW-G1 is a memory card reader designed specifically for CFexpress Type B memory cards, as well as XQD card types. This reader takes advantage of the card types' fast transfer speeds and allows you to move data over USB 3.1 Gen 2 for post-production editing and file storage. Both USB Type-C to Type-C and USB Type-C to Type-A cables are included, too, for wide compatibility.

Will this work for Type A CFexpress cards?

Will this work for Type A CFexpress cards?

No. Type A cards are physically smaller than type B cards and will not fit into this card reader. Type B cards and XQD cards are exactly the same dimensions and both work in this card reader (note that many other card readers currently on the market only work with one type of memory card, either Type B or XQD, but not both).

I contacted Sony concerning your inquiry. According to Sony, the MRW-G1 CFexpress Type B/XQD Memory Card is fully compatible Mac OS computers using the USB Type C cable supplied with the CFexpress card reader. The above card reader is a Plug and Play device and no software is required. The MRW-G1 CFexpress Type B/XQD Memory Card is fully with the latest Mac OS computers/laptop.

What is the transfer rate: the sony CF Express card writes at 1470 and reads at around 2000. the only card reader you have for sell only transfers 1200?

USB 3.1 is limited to about 10Gb/s or about about 1,250MB/s.

This will not read XQD cards, (but my old Sony XQD reader shows those cards as fine)? Will read CFexpressB cards though. Now I have to carry two card readers.

Sony MRW-G1 CFexpress Type B/XQD Memory Card Reader is fully compatible with XQD cars. If your reader is not working with this card I would recomend verifying if the unit is defective. Sony provide 1 year manufacture warranty.

No, not all CFexpress type B cards work with XQD readers. It will be required to get a proper CFexpress type B reader to ensure transfers and transfers without failures that will cause corrupt data.

Can't answer yes for sure, but I think it supports all CFexpress cards not just Sony. Check online with Sony or other users/owners. YouTube is sometimes a good source of this type of information.
