Genaray Essential 500 II Bi-Color Overview

B&H has put together this Genaray Spectro LED Essential 500IIB Bi-Color LED Light Panel 2-Light Kit to provide image-makers with a flexible system for the studio or on location. The bundle includes two Spectro LED Essential 500IIB bi-color LED panels, each with a 6' light stand. Power options include separately purchased NP-F-type batteries.

Genaray Spectro LED Essential 500IIB Bi-Color LED Light Panel

The Spectro LED Essential 500IIB Bi-Color LED Light Panel by Genaray is a 504 LED panel with color temperature that's variable from tungsten-balanced 3200K to daylight-balanced 5600K or anywhere in between. Instead applying filters, you can match other light sources, ambient light conditions, or just use color creatively with a simple twist of a knob. The fixture's high CRI/TLCI ratings of 96 are indicators of impressive accuracy in color rendering. Light intensity is adjustable too, from 0 to 100% without flicker, allowing shooting at high frame rates for slow motion.

The Spectro LED Essential 500IIB offers a 60° flood beam spread for adequate coverage with enough punch for long-throw work. The 13.6 x 9.25 x 2.8" panel weighs just 2.8 lb, and with its slim profile it can be placed in areas that traditional fixtures just can't go. Another benefit of using LEDs is low power draw, and although the 500IIB consumes just 40W of power, it outputs many times that number, providing impressive output for your work. For a larger array with more power Genaray has included cold shoe mounts to allow you to stack up to 3 units for triple the power.

Yet another example of the light's versatility is its power options. The 500IIB is ready for worldwide use thanks to the included 100 to 240 VAC adapter, but the fixture also has two ports that accept separately-purchased NP-F-type batteries for situations where mains power is unavailable.

Adjustable Color Temperature with High CRI/TLCI
Color temperature is adjustable from 3200K tungsten to daylight-balanced 5600K to blend seamlessly with ambient light, match other fixtures, or to spark creative expression. The SP-E-500IIB's high CRI/TLCI ratings are indicators of accuracy in color rendering.
Flicker-Free Variable Light Intensity
The Spectro LED is dimmable from 0 to 100% without filters or color shift. The light is also flicker-free allowing shooting at high frame rates for slow motion.
AC or Battery Power Options
The fixture is ready for worldwide use via the included 100 to 240VAC adapter, but the SP-E-500IIB has two ports that accept separately-purchased NP-F-type batteries when mains power is unavailable.
Cool Operation
The Spectro LED runs with barely perceptible warmth, so you can move the light close to your subjects without causing them discomfort.
Mounting and Stacking Options
The light has an industry-standard 5/8" receiver for stand-mounting as well as 1/4"-20 top and bottom taps, while the pre-installed yoke is removable to allow the fixture to be vertically or horizontally stand-mounted. You can also stack up to three units to create a large array using the included cold foot mounts.

Impact Light Stand (Black, 6')

Great for small to medium-size lights, the black anodized aluminum 6' Light Stand from Impact is a lightweight (1.8 lb) support that can handle gear weighing up to 4 lb and folds down to just 26.3" to easily fit in a small bag. The stand has a minimum working height of 26.3" and a stable footprint of 30". The 3-section stand has an industry-standard 5/8" top stud with 1/4"-20 threads for additional mounting options.

Benefits
  • Light and compact design: The two telescoping risers extend to a full height of 6' and fold down to 26.3" for easy transport and storage
  • Integrated 5/8" spigot: Compatible with lights, flash units, and other photo and video accessories with a 5/8" receiver

Genaray Essential 500 II Bi-Color Reviews

Great Little Light

By Joshua
Rated 5 out of 5

This is a great light that provide enough light to illuminate the face during my video shoots and isn't overly big and bulky or too heavy for the clamp I use to secure it. Color is pretty accurate to what I shoot for as well.

Color does not go above 5,300K.

Bought it for video recording, but capability of changing colors falls short--can not get it to 5,600K, as advertised. Being used as a desk lamp, now.

The specs here and on the Genaray website say cooling is by a fan, but a B&H staff answer to a question about noise said it only has passive cooling and no fan noise. So I'm confused. Which is it, fan or no fan? Thanks very much.
Asked by: Gary
These panels do not offer a fan as a means of cooling them.
