Kandao QooCam 8K Reviews

works great now!

I've had this for over a year. There's been a number of firmware & software updates since then. It works great now. I use it for 360 panoramas. The stitching is very good/excellent. It does great HDR by supplying 3 raw images of each scene which I combine in HDR software.

Okay, could be better!

There a definitely good things about the QooCam 8k 360 Camera. I love the large touch screen, and that I don't have to depend on an App to shoot 360 images & videos. Unfortunately, Kandao has a ways to go in image processing. Stitch lines are quite noticeable because of color matching issues (particularly in bright scenes). I can't really depend on this camera for professional work yet.

NOT for Professional use; buggy, & slow & annoying workflow

Used it for real estate tours and tried DNG8 which is supposed to shoot 8 RAW pictures at different exposures, it did not do that. just shot 8 pics at the same exposure. (granted I could have done something wrong, but I checked all the settings). Also not compatible with Matterport, Zillow. Their HDR and Stitcher programs are buggy and some OS like Mac or older versions of WIN won't work at all. For hobby use, the camera is excellent. I.e. personal portfolio or IG, Facebook, etc. 8K is amazing for video and regular stills are great too. SD card slot is a BIG bonus. The battery is okay, just bring a sizeable battery bank if you're planning on using it the whole day. The unboxing experience was very nice (Apple-like), with a bunch of extras like a case, sleeve, and different USBs. V2 or Mkii might be better but this one isn't it. I'd avoid this camera if you're doing professional work, if you are using it for personal use then go for it, the camera produces a quality image for the price, for your socials. Just be prepared to practice a lot and get annoyed by some features.

I purchased this camera to create 360 tours of homes. I was hired to create 360 tours using this camera and successfully created 3 tours. On only the fourth assignment -- after having this camera for less than two months -- this camera stopped working.

I was so excited about this camera. It is compared to pro camera’s don’t drink the kool aid. Not ready for fast turn around VR tours. The blue sky is very unnatural. One Lens is about 1 stop darker. Seems lines very apparent. I can go on and on. Lots of potential but just not ready for prime time. Oh and software for Mac crash crash crash.

I had many issues with this camera: 1. After 10 minutes of being on, the record button was not responsive. This happened repeatedly. I suspect a heat problem. 2. They claim that it can handle a power charger while recording. Mine did not. 3. They are having problems with connectivity, so I couldn't do a firmware update. 4. Had a little trouble with the footage deciding on its own the orientation (eg, hang a corner - it keeps orienting straight, or to the side of my orientation after the turn). Fixable post production, but a pain. I spent a lot of time trying to make this device work, so it failed my field test. I have used the following 360 cameras with varying levels of success: GoPro, Garmin, Ricoh, and Fly. I use them for action videos. Pro: The 8k footage was very clear. I wish it would have worked. That's why I gave it one star better than 1 star. If you have the patience to turn it on and off in an indoor setting, it may work for you. This is not an action camera. Perhaps a version 2 or 3 may be improved.

Camera is great / Computer software is garbage

The camera is great. For what it is, it makes impressive images. The mobile app is just ...meh. It works well enough but the wifi rage is horrible, like 40-50 feet max with direct line of sight. If there's anything in between QooCam and your phone, much less. Like even just putting your phone in your pocket. As for Kandao's computer software, forget about it and plan on buying PTGui to stitch 360s instead. Kandao's software is a steaming pile of garbage. It works (sometimes, maybe) only if you take the images straight from the camera. If you do pretty much anything in Lr or Ps to the raw dng files the Kandao software flakes out and won't do anything with them.
