Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-45mm f/4 PRO Overview

Covering a useful and familiar range with a svelte form factor, the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-45mm f/4 PRO is a 24-90mm-equivalent zoom for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras. Distinguished by its f/4 constant maximum aperture, this lens strikes a balance between a bright design and a highly compact design to suit its use in everyday situations. Additionally, the lens is weather-sealed to enable its use in trying weather conditions.

Standard wide-angle to portrait-length zoom lens is designed for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras and provides a 24-90mm equivalent focal length range.
Constant f/4 maximum aperture enables consistent performance throughout the zoom range and helps to achieve a sleek and lightweight physical design.
The lens construction integrates two aspherical elements, one DSA (Dual Super Aspherical) element, two extra-low dispersion elements, one Super HR (high-refractive index) elements, and two HR elements into its design to minimize aberrations, distortion, and color fringing throughout the zoom range while also contributing to overall image sharpness, clarity, and color accuracy.
A ZERO (Zuiko Extra-low Reflection Optical) coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions.
Movie & Still Compatible (MSC) autofocus system benefits both photo and video applications due to its smooth, quiet, and fast performance.
Minimum focusing distance of 4.7" at the wide end and 9.1" at the tele end pairs with an impressive 0.25x maximum magnification ratio to suit working with close-up subjects.
Dust-, freeze-, and drip-proof design ensure the lens' performance in inclement and harsh conditions.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm produces a smooth bokeh quality.

Great travel lens, lightweight and well built produces sharp images. Despite the aperture being f4, the bokeh is pleasant.

This 12-45 mm pro lens is super sharp for shooting in any situation even in low light situations. I tested it at many different aperture and iso settings even indoors without a flash. I am using this lens on a Om Em 1 Mark Iii . Lens is very fast for a multi function zoom at F4 through its entire zoom range 24-90mm 35mm or full frame equivalent.

Does the job.

A Very Handy Little Lens

In a world full of big, expensive new lenses, this little 24mm to 90mm equivalent f/4 lens stands out as a relatively inexpensive, versatile alternative, great for vacation, street and family photography. It's sharp, compact, and well made. And today, when cameras take decent quality photos with incredibly high ISO's and have in-camera stabilization, the whole f/4 thing doesn't matter as much as it used to. It's not big and heavy, so people on the street don't care as much if they see you taking their photo. It's a very handy little lens.

Perfect every day lens for M5.2.

I think the best aspect of this lens is the very low flare. I don't have all the Oly primes in this range but for sharpness and low flare at f4 this is a very good lens. Hopefully the 8-25 f4 will be this good.

Highly recommended

This is a great lens. Lightweight, and pin sharp at f 4, 5.6. F8 is also very acceptable at all focal lengths. I like the close up capability.

I upgraded from a Lumix 12-44 (which I also liked) to this Oly 12-45 Pro. This is my absolute favorite everyday lens.

Very nice...

I have been using Sigma Art lenses and Nikon D610. Decided to go smaller and lighter. Got the Olympus OM-D EM-1 MKii with this lens. Very happy. Im no a expert / but the results have been comparable to the full frame Nikon and Sigma ART lens.

There are no issues. I use both systems and have never had an issue with the Olympus lenses on the G9. In previous times, the Lumix lenses would occasionally make weird noises 0n the Olympus Om1s, but all function correctly.

can anyone recommend a screw-on lens hood for the 12-45mm Zuiiko that is as small as possible, but will not cause any vignetting?
Asked by: Paul
The original lens hood can easily twist out of alignment and cause vignetting. That's why I'd like to find one that screws in tightly with actual screw threads.
