FUJIFILM GF 45-100mm f/4 R LM WR Reviews
The Prime Zoom of the Fuji GFX Collection
This lens is the current Pro standard zoom in the GFX line. It's flexible for many uses, with built in optical image stabilization, and a nice zoom range from wide to short telephoto. You could run a business with a GFX camera and only have this one lens. You can shoot everything from landscapes to fashion, to family portraits with this lens, and have exceptional quality results. If you shoot medium format weddings, then this is your lens. Leave it on the camera all day. That said, I recently walked a long way out to the salt hexagons in Badwater Basin in Death Valley, and this thing (With a tripod, plenty of water, and camera bag) got heavy. I was wishing for the 35-70mm at the time. That said, it's performed flawlessly, and durably so far in the time I've used it. It's performance is above the 35-70mm as it should be for three times the cost. (Depending on rebates) It focuses quick, is sharper with less CA wide open, has less distortion, and the OIS works great. It doesn't focus close enough for tabletop still life or product photography however, (The 35-70mm focuses closer) but that's easily solved with the 18mm extension tube which works great on this lens. This is as Prime-like as a zoom gets, but if you're pixel peeping, the primes are still a bit better, as they should be. (None of your customers will notice) This lens takes 82mm filters, which isn't awesome, but if you have the GF23mm at least you can share filters. It's sharp, great color/contrast, and very flexible. You can't lose. Happy shooting!
Great zoom for GFX cameras
I have the 32-64, also a great lens--but this is even a bit better. Very slightly sharper in the corners, excellent color rendition. Big, but it's medium format after all.
SUPER ZOOM LENS
IF YOU WANT GREAT ZOOM GF LENS - THIS IS THE BEST CHOICE
A Very Good Zoom!!
At first, I will state I have never been a fan of zoom lenses. There are too many moving parts. With that, on to the review. I performed a series of quick tests to see how well the zoom performed and was a little concerned about the 45mm end of this copy of the lens. I was going to return it, but after careful consideration I determined it was OK. There is softness in the corners that extend about 1-1/2" into the frame at the 45 focal length. It is not so soft that its bothersome, but its there. I own a 45mm prime and that lens' resolving power is phenomenal across the frame. Everywhere else in the 45-100 frame is just as good as the prime. At 60-100, the lens performs flawlessly! It is very pleasing how well this lens performed at the standard to long end. Tack sharp to the corners. Beautiful. I am very pleased. I should have bought this instead of the 45 prime. Its that good!
Amazing Normal Zoom
If you're going to get only one lens for the Fuji GF system, this is the one to get. Tack sharp at f/4 at any focal length, it's a dream to use and produces outstanding results. If I had to nitpick, I don't like the fact that it extends as it zooms (the 100-200 does not), but that's my only complaint. This is my default lens to use on the 100S, and so far I'm beyond satisfied.
A great lens!
This is a wonderful lens with a large number of ways to use it. It opens up wide enough to use for many landscape opportunities while also zooming in tight enough for portrait photos with very smooth bokeh. Of course, it would be even nicer if it could allow one more stop of light in it but there is a limit of what is possible when using a sensor of this size. I have found no issues with this lens at all. It is very sharp from edge to edge, even wide open. There is practically no chromatic aberration, the image stabilization works amazingly well such that a person gets at least 5 stops worth of benefit. If there has been anything desired, it might be that when shooting landscape there are times I wished it would open up a little bit wider. So if a person was wanting a lens to predominantly shoot landscape, the 32-64mm might be a better fit but pertaining to the lenses performance, I have found no faults in the slightest!
Very sharp lens
It's on my GFX 100s, couldn't be happier- Very sharp, easy to use and very high quality. The OIS with the 100s is amazing. I'll know more as I spend more time with it but so far I have NO complaints.
Great lens.
Simply a phenomenal lens. Quite probably the finest zoom lens of any type or brand I've ever owned. 'Nuff said.
