Provide Wi-Fi coverage throughout your home with this ZenWiFi XT8 AX6600 Wireless Tri-Band Mesh Wi-Fi System from ASUS. This system consists of two AX6600 6.6Gb/s routers that have the ability to cover up to 5500 square feet of your home, both inside and outside. This wireless coverage can be seamless, with a single name for the entire network, so you can move around your home without needing to reconnect from one router to the other.

The ZenWiFi system has been designed for easy and intuitive setup and network management, but gives you the ability to take control for a customized experience that's right for you. For example, you can have your mobile devices use all three wireless bands, or designate a 5 GHz band for backhaul operations to optimize the network speed of your devices. The ZenWiFi system also provides data security, parental controls, support for smart-home services, and is compatible with additional ASUS AiMesh components.

8K Live Streaming

With support for Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) technology and 160 MHz wide channels, you can enjoy network speeds up to 6.6 Gb/s, which is enough for 8K-quality live streams with compatible devices. Please note that 160 MHz bandwidth may be unavailable in the 5 GHz band in some regions/countries due to regulatory restrictions.

Improve Device Battery Life with TWT

Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) supports a feature called Target Wake Time (TWT), which has the ability to schedule when compatible devices can wake from sleep modes to check-in with the network or internet. This lets devices stay asleep longer, saving battery life.

Tri-Band with Optional Backhaul

This ZenWiFi system delivers three individual Wi-Fi bands, two 5 GHz bands and one 2.4 GHz band. You have the option of combining them under a single network name, or keeping them separate with names for each band. You also have the option of dedicating one of the 5 GHz bands for backhaul support.

A backhaul connection is the network connection between the routers themselves and is not something your mobile devices can see or utilize. If you choose to not set one up, your mobile devices can use all 3 bands for network and internet access, but the routers will communicate on one of the 5 GHz bands. If you select to have a backhaul connection, the router and device traffic are separated, reducing possible network congestion.

This system also supports a wired backhaul solution. You can utilize one of the Ethernet ports on each router to connect to your existing network for a wired backhaul connection. This gives the routers a dedicated connection, while giving your mobile devices access to all three wireless bands.

Easy Setup

ASUS designed the ZenWiFi system setup to be a 3-step process. Utilizing the ASUS Router app, you just have to turn on the routers, create a network name and admin account, and then wait a few minutes. That's it. This one-time setup includes auto-synchronization for each of the routers, and each router can work as the main router or as an extender node.

AiProtection Pro with Parental Controls

ASUS AiProtection is a free-for-life service that requires no subscription fee to use. It's designed to protect your data, keep your family safe, let you monitor network usage, and control network access.
  • IPS (Intrusion Prevention System) blocks all common internet-based attacks
  • Infection detection and blocking abilities help prevent data on already-infected devices from being compromised
  • Utilizing Trend Micro's database, ZenWiFi can identify and block known malicious websites
  • Internet Activity Dashboard: View everyone's internet activity on a graphical dashboard. See peak time and what content is being viewed. Group devices that children have access to and view aggregated data, apply scheduled block times, and content filters in just a few steps.
  • Kid-Safe Preset: With a single checkbox, you can set a device or profile to automatically have filters applied for inappropriate content
  • Schedule Block Time: Develop responsible behavior by setting specific time periods when devices can access the internet
  • Content Filter: Lets you block specific categories of apps and sites, and allows you to apply those settings to all devices or those belonging to specific family members. Advanced filtering integrates with Trend Micro's Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) engine to not only filter websites, but internet packets of information themselves, so content is filtered in the browser and within mobile apps.

Smart Home with Alexa & IFTTT

The ZenWiFi system supports Alexa and IFTTT-compatible smart home devices, allowing you to use voice commands and IFTTT applets to control the routers. Use your voice to start a guest network, pause the internet, and more.

Add Peripherals with USB

Each router features a USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A port for the connection of optional peripherals to enhance your network's capabilities. Give all of your devices access to a USB printer or access to external USB storage.

Compatible with AiMesh

If you need more coverage throughout your home, you can add AiMesh devices to expand the ZenWiFi system. Optional AiMesh-compatible routers can act as Wi-Fi nodes around your house. Nodes closest to other ZenWiFi routers can boost your network signal where existing equipment might not reach.

Don’t expect any technical support. I must have called five times to get help. No one seems to know anything but to pass it on. Then after the case was escalated, there was no call back.

Great router (with proper firmware) !

My dual-bnad RT-AX89X was plagued with mesh stability issue since a firmware upgrade a while ago. I thought a tri-band mesh system might help. At the beginning, the mesh stability was similar to the previous system. I was then, in desperate, to flash it with the 5/27/2022 Beta firmware (9.0.0.4.386.48966). That solved the problem! Apparently, a bug causing mesh unstable when WAP key length > 32 characters was introduced. I happen to use a rather long WPA key (for security), thus getting caught. I tried RT-AX89X with a short WAP key and the mesh stability was okay. I suspect a similar bug is in the firmware of that router, and many other Asus routers. Although my Rt-AX89X mesh stability issue could be worked around with a shorter WAP key, but i decided to keep the new XT8. The signal covers the whole house including the back yard with at least 3 bars (2.4GHz). The previous mesh would fall to 1 bar in some corners. The RT-AX89X is kept as a spare router now. I highly recommend the XT8 for its coverage and mesh stability (with the proper firmware). The added bonus is no more wife nagging about the ugly RT-AX89X look! I wish Asus can take a look into the WPA key issue in other routers. The same fix shall propagate into all affected routers to improve the Ai-Mesh stability!

GREAT WiFi 6 Mesh System

On June 1, 2022 I had the ASUS ZenWiFi AX6600 Tri-band WiFi 6 Mesh System (XT8 2PK) installed at my home. My home is about 2400 sq. ft. The ASUS Mesh System replaced a Netgear dual band WiFi router. My Internet provider is Spectrum. With Spectrum Internet service I pay for 200Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload. However, with my Netgear WiFi router I was only receiving 41 Mbps download and 11 Mbps upload and at my office location (about 2 ft. from the Netgear router). After installing the ASUS ZenWiFi XT8 Mesh System in my home, I received 234 Mbps download and 12 Mbps upload at my office (about 2 ft. from the ASUS WiFi router). That’s an unbelievable increase of 193 Mbps download at the same location. Another example of the performance with the ASUS ZenWiFi XT8 Mesh System was the speed difference I received in my garage. With the Netgear WiFi router and a WiFi 6 iPhone 11 Pro Max client\device, I received 7.2 Mbps download and 9.7 Mbps upload. However, with the ASUS ZenWiFi XT8 Mesh I received 230.8 Mbps download and 11.7 Mbps upload with the same device. That’s an amazing increase of 223.6 Mbps download with the ASUS ZenWiFi 6 Mesh System!!! In fact, with the iPhone 11 Pro Max a WiFi 6 device, I averaged 228.7 Mbps download and 11.4 Mbps upload with the ASUS ZenWiFi AX6600 Tri-band WiFi 6 Mesh System (XT8 2PK), throughout my home (2400 sq. ft.). With the Netgear dual band router and iPhone 11 Pro Max a WiFi 6 device, I averaged of 26.5 Mbps download and 9.9 Mbps upload. What a GREAT IMPROVEMENT!!! With the ASUS ZenWiFi XT8 Mesh System, I’m getting the bandwidth speeds (200 Mbps download, 11 Mbps upload) that I’m paying for from Spectrum (my Internet provider). However, with the Netgear WiFi router I averaging about 26.5 Mbps download and 9.9 Mbps upload. The ASUS ZenWiFi XT8 easily averaged over 228 Mbps download over the Netgear WiFi router. I’m thrilled with the purchase of my ASUS ZenWiFi AX6600 Tri-band WiFi 6 Mesh System (XT8 2PK). Before purchasing the ASUS ZenWiFi AX6600 Tri-band WiFi 6 Mesh System (XT8 2PK), I watched YouTube videos about the installation and performance of the ASUS ZenWiFi XT8 Mesh System and saw the performance increase these individuals reported. I never thought I would get the improves they received. However, after installing the ASUS ZenWiFi XT8 Mesh System and conducting speed tests throughout my home, I can honestly state that I received GREAT performance from the ASUS ZenWiFi XT8 Mesh System!!! I highly recommend the ASUS ZenWiFi AX6600 XT8 WiFi 6 Mesh System!!!

Good Mesh router, 2nd time purchased, USB drive setup

I am on my second purchase due to a lightning/power line disturbance that killed the main box (purchased in 2020) that was direct attached to modem. The satellite mesh box was fine and still in use. The setup options can take some time to get to your liking, but the ASUS utility gives you a lot of options. I saved my configuration file this time during rebuild. Range is very good (with two units.) in my home and yard. USB drive for backup is a nice touch.

Common misconception. You do not need separate 2.4 and 5GHz SSIDs for devices that only run on 2.4. The 2.4 devices will connect to the 2.4 network, and will work just fine.
