Covering a range of useful telephoto focal lengths, the HD PENTAX-D FA 70-210mm f/4 ED SDM WR from Pentax is a flexible zoom characterized by its reach, range, and relatively sleek design. It features a constant f/4 maximum aperture that maintains consistent brightness throughout the zoom range and offers increased control over depth of field for achieving selective focus effects. The optical design incorporates a series of low dispersion elements that help to minimize chromatic aberrations in order to achieve greater clarity and color accuracy and a multi-layer HD Coating also helps to suppress flare and surface reflections for improved contrast. Complementing the optics is an SDM autofocus system that delivers especially quick, quiet, and accurate focusing performance that suits both stills and video applications. Additionally, the lens is moisture-resistant and has a Super Protect coating on the front element to enable its use in trying environmental conditions.

Pentax D FA 70-200mm f/4 ED SDM WR Reviews
Very Good Lens
Excellent overall optical quality & automatic focus system. Well balanced, hand held, with a full frame camera. Use on a ball head requires a larger ball mount and significant tightening of the friction control. I likely will purchase a review suggested tripod collar to improve the ball head use. Of course, balances easily on a gimbal head. Pleasing bokeh.
Great lens and image quality!
I also shoot Canon and this Pentax 70-210mm f/4 lens is really just an incredible lens, just about as sharp as it's Canon equivalent. (need to pixel peep to see the difference except right at the long end I would say the Canon 70-200 f/4 is slightly sharper. Regardless, I am very satisfied with this Pentax lens and it's image quality is superb.
Perfect for the K1
I bought my K1 thinking that my Pentax/Ricoh legacy K-mount Legacy lenses would work with the new digital cameras. I was very disappointed. None of the lenses had the field resolution or color fidelity to match the capabilities of my K1. I had been very happy with my Pentax HD Pentax-D FA 24-70mm f/2.8ED SDM WR Lens, but I was still relying on legacy prime lenses for telephoto (up to 135mm). Because purchasing a new HD was a substantial investment I debated going with the f 2.8 of the f 4 telephoto zoom. B&H reviews, as always, helped me make my decision. I primarily take landscape and nature photos, most often with a tripod in conditions of low light. The weight and size of the lens was also a strong consideration as I often hike with my camera. I selected the f 4 over the f 2.8 for these reasons. The lens is amazing for my uses: bright colors and needle sharp resolution across the focus plane. This is the perfect choice for the K1 and the way I use it.
A Great Lens!
As a long-time user of Pentax equipment, since the early days of the Spotmatic, I am very pleased with the recent addition to my collection of lenses. Quick, accurate, and silent focusing. As always, the customer service from B&H is responsive and timely.
Terrific lens!
I had avoided upgrading to full frame because I wasn’t about to lug the heavy 70-200/2.8 around the world. When Pentax z bounced the much lighter 70-210/4, I jumped in. It makes me very happy that they did andctvst I did. It’s a very handy optic. The absence of a tripod collar is easily remedied with the use of the Tamron collar for its own 70-210. It fits the Pentax lens like a glove. Like all such zooms, the best sharpness is I gained slightly away from the extremes of the optical range and stopped down at least a bit from wide open.
Great addition to my bag
I very happy with this lens, I purchased this for my recent trip to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons. Very sharp, quiet, and lightweight. I'm actually more impressed than I anticipated being. Shot some Bison and the eyes were tack sharp. Don't need the heavy 2.8 for landscape shooting.
A great all-rounder
I've only had this lens for a few days, but I'm sure my first impressions will stick. I've tired it out on both the Pentax K3 II and K1 and so far it has handled everything I wanted it for, close-ups, landscapes and action shots. I haven't found anything to disappoint.
Excellent lens
This lens works really well on my K-70. It is a little long but balances well in the hand. Colors are warm and rich. It appears to be sharp at both ends at f5.6 where I use it the most. Surprised that it didn’t get a DA* rating from Pentax.
