I have used many Elinchrom lights and this new version is better engineered, more solid and a pleasure to use.

Best Elinchrom Monolight 2022

I bought 4 of this already for Product Photography. They are in so many ways better than the ELC PRO HD500... Nice Things: - Build Quality superior to the ProHd - Faster Flash Durationa starting at 3.3 power settings. (Action mode) - Cool to the touch LED modeling lamp. - Nicer tripod mount on the elinchrom system. - Modern User interface. The only thing that its less apealing is the slowe flash duration at full power, specially on standar mode. its 1/300s. Best under 1000usd monolight ever...

Upgraded from Alienbee B400 to get a faster flash duration. These are also more powerful and just feel more well constructed all around.

Great value, one annoyance

I have a lot of the various Elinchrom moonlights. This unit is very solid, feels like a brick, and it does finally fix the annoying problem with the mount being wobbly, as referenced by the first reviewer. I added this item to the other heads to eliminate the loose connection on stand: BH #KUKG013212  MFR #KG013212. My one disappointment is the modeling light, wish they had kept the setup from the ELCPro line. This unit's modeling light is dimmer and has a blue/green cast, really ugly. Puzzling why they changed a perfectly fine setup. Otherwise this version of the Elinchrom moonlights is solid, and a great value considering its TTL and HSS capabilities, which I haven't used yet.

Good Light with Bad Match

ELC 500 fits on the stand with good stability and works great. It is a great 500W light with great features. If you go Elinchrom with these lights and need to add one or more 1000W mono lights then you better watch out- ELC 1000 does not make a good fit on the 5/8 stud. It is very shaky at the best with 10-20 degree play or plain impossible to secure. Their support does not answer email either. I have no experience with the 250W. I have a total of 9 Elinchrom lights. All work perfect except the issue with ELC 1000 mentioned above.

Circuit board replacement need

This ELC 500 TTL was purchased new in July 2021 to accompany my two new ELB 500 TTLs. After a firmware upgrade to version 1.6, an Error 4 appeared. I could not remedy this error. I contacted Elinchrom's head office. The staff suggested that the unit required either a full reset which may not fix the Error or it may be the capacitor circuit board. The unit has been sitting in an Elinchrom service shop for 4 weeks. They are waiting for a replacement board to be replaced under the 1 year warranty. With the pandemic, it may take longer to receive the board. I am unhappy with the electronic quality and should have purchased another ELB 500 TTL single head and battery unit.

Love them .

Any reason the get the ELC 125 vs the ELC 500? I will use them for in-studio stuff.
Asked by: Michael
Depends on the size of your sets, ELC 125 is compact and it's powerful enough for shooting single-person portraits, small subject tabletop stills or macro works in home studios. If you shoot in a larger area, with a smaller aperture like f/11 or f/16, ELC 500 is much more flexible.

Is this strobe capable of being used on location with the relatively standardized portable DC battery packs; is there a front adapter mounted sling securing ring which slings the battery for the aforementioned DC battery pack?
Asked by: Lawrence
Just get the ELB 500 kit. It’s the same idea, but battery powered, and you get the advantage of having a lightweight strobe head, instead of a monolight.
