Lumix S PRO 70-200mm f/2.8 O.I.S. Lens with UV Filter Kit Overview

Complementing the lens itself, the Panasonic Lumix S PRO 70-200mm f/2.8 O.I.S. Lens with UV Filter Kit from B&H bundles the fast telephoto zoom with an 82mm UV filter.

Panasonic Lumix S PRO 70-200mm f/2.8 O.I.S. Lens

Developed to be the workhorse for events, portraiture, and other mid-length subjects, the Panasonic Lumix S PRO 70-200mm f/2.8 O.I.S. is an L-mount telephoto zoom characterized by a bright f/2.8 constant maximum aperture and sophisticated optical and focusing performance. The optics layout incorporates several aspherical and low dispersion elements in order to minimize chromatic and spherical aberrations throughout the zoom range for higher clarity, sharpness, and accurate rendering. Complementing the optics is a unique double focus system, which utilizes both a linear motor and a stepping motor, to provide especially fast and precise focusing performance. A focus clutch also enables especially quick switching between AF and MF settings for fine-tuned control. Additionally, an Optical Image Stabilizer reduces the effects of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting and the lens sports a weather-sealed design for use in harsh conditions.

Telephoto zoom is designed for full-frame L-mount mirrorless cameras, however can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 105-300mm equivalent focal length range.
Bright constant f/2.8 maximum aperture maintains consistent illumination throughout the zoom range and affords greater control over depth of field.
One aspherical element helps to minimize distortions and spherical aberrations throughout the zoom range in order to maintain edge-to-edge sharpness and illumination.
Two ultra extra-low dispersion elements and three extra-low dispersion elements greatly reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing in order to produce a high degree of clarity and color accuracy.
A double focus system employs both a linear motor and a stepping motor to deliver impressively fast, precise, and quiet autofocus performance. A focus clutch mechanism has also been incorporated, which allows for near-instant AF/MF switching.
Focusing system has been designed to suppress focus breathing for greater versatility when used for video applications.
Optical Image Stabilizer minimizes the appearance of camera shake b for sharper handheld shooting, and also supports the Dual I.S. and Dual I.S. 2.0 functions for increased stabilization performance up to approximately seven stops.
Splash, dust, and freezeproof design benefits working in inclement weather conditions down to -14°F.
Rounded 11-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.
Removable rotating tripod collar with Arca-type dovetail is included and benefits working with the lens atop a tripod or monopod.
Compatible with optional DMW-STC14 and DMW-STC20 teleconverters to further extend the reach of this lens.

Chiaro Pro 82mm 98-UVATS UV Filter

The Pro 82mm 98-UVATS UV Filter is one of Chiaro’s highest-rated protective UV filters with 98% light transmission. It’s ideal for photographers of all levels who demand high-quality glass and other essential features for excellent image fidelity and construction.

To achieve 98% light transmission, Chiaro uses highly-polished optical glass, multi-coating, and additional advanced elements that improve the filter’s light transmission. A scratch-resistant coating minimizes scratching of the glass and helps assure that water, oil, dust, and fingerprints are removed with a gentle wipe. Its hard-anodized aluminum filter ring is designed to screw on and off effortlessly, and it is thin to prevent vignetting when used with wide-angle lenses. Side knurling helps assure that you’ll have a firm grip when attaching or removing your filter.

Image quality is what matters most at Chiaro. The company has tested and combined many features and essentials to achieve superior image quality and the highest light transmission. To help take the confusion out of selecting a filter, Chiaro prominently displays the light transmission levels so that you can choose the perfect filter for your lens and photo session.

98% Light Transmission
Protecting your lens doesn't mean you have to lose optical quality. By using highly-polished optical glass and advanced coatings, Chiaro offers a 98% transmission rate, which is an excellent transmission rate for glass. And the company verifies the ratings with ISO certified lab testing.
Resistance Coating
The layers of advanced resistance coating on the filter are designed to resist moderate scratches, and allow you to easily clean your filter. Water beads up and rolls off your filter, and oil and fingerprints can come off with a gentle wipe. Dust and debris won't adhere to the filter and can be removed with a puff of air.
Polished Optical Glass
Glass that's polished to perfection is essential to achieve a high level of light transmission. The optical glass in this Chiaro filter is highly-polished for flatness that ensures excellent optical clarity.
Multi-Coating
Multi-coating enhances light transmission to the demanding level set for all Chiaro filters. It reduces unwanted internal reflections and ghosting that can compromise your images.
UV Protection
The filter blocks UV light and reduces the bluish cast of daylight that can affect color accuracy, especially at higher altitudes.
Hard Anodized Aluminum Construction
The process of hard anodizing toughens and strengthens the aluminum for a lightweight yet durable filter ring.
Slim Design
Measuring only 3.2mm, this filter is slim enough to use on wide-angle lenses without experiencing vignetting.
Top and Side Knurling
In addition to top knurling, Chiaro added side knurling to better grip the filter when you're attaching and removing it, or when you're stacking filters.
Secure Attachment
It takes two full turns to mount the filter on your lens. This feature will securely hold your Chiaro filter through the most demanding photo shoots.
Front Threads
The front threads on the filter allow you to stack filters by screwing them onto your Chiaro filter.

Lumix S PRO 70-200mm f/2.8 O.I.S. Lens with UV Filter Kit Reviews

Great portrait lens

Provides all the traditional telephoto portrait focal lengths in one package with a relatively large aperture. Heavy, but not really a hassle to handle once you get used to it. You'll likely need a new camera bag to fit it, though... Closest focusing distance is about one meter, which is kind of disappointing, but that means you always keep some distance from subjects, even when doing close-ups.

Huge, heavy, sharp and fast.

I'm using on my Leica SL2, and it shoots very sharp at 200 (280 with TC) on a tripod. Fast focus and reliable.

Simply Amazing!

This is an awesome lens. The 70-200mm F2.8 class has been my dream lens for many years. I held off on getting the Canon or Sony versions as I've shot with both systems, and now that I'm shooting with the Panasonic S1, I'm glad I waited. I ordered it just in time to shoot with it on location with a winter sports manufacture in cold, wet/snowy weather and it performed like a champ. I shot with a tripod and would NOT recommend shooting handheld (this should be obvious for a long lens but it might be tempting when you consider the double IS), however, the bigger challenge is the weight. It's HEAVY and if you plan to shoot for hours on end without a tripod, good luck to you! I've no complaints about the picture. The image quality is everything I hoped it would be. And of course the most important review of all: the client was very pleased!

I HATE ZOOMS............Till NOW!

Just a few short notes: I shot mainly with Sinar P 8x10s w/Schneider HM lens (blue ring) hand picked....Hassy and Rollie were my mids....Now shoot Leica Q for Art and new Lumix S1R w/Lumix 50mm F1.4....bought this lens because studied a bit of optical design years ago and thought by now they could actually make a zoom fulfill most of requirements a true professional would desire artistically and technically. Try this and shoot wide open at a decent shutter , maybe 1/2000 to be sure of 100% sharpness, on a rich complex subject with lots of challenges and good clear lighting and be prepared to be amazed. I view images RAW on Capture 1 Pro using latest 32gb Ram 4K touch screen Dell 15.6 XPS.....dead on in every respect. Love lens color, contrast, build, handle, image feel, sharpness etc...... Amazing for the price. Now a big fan of Lumix system. Hope others agree with me. Best of Luck.

Very good (if gargantuan) glass

The images this lens produces lives up to the billing. The one thing I would add is to pay attention to the reviews that mention the size and weight of this lens. I read those and thought it would be a little bigger and heavier than other lenses in my backpack. But, seriously, if you haven't held this thing in you hands, you have no idea. It's a complete beast. I am thinking twice before deploying it - that's how massive this thing is. It could double as a boat anchor. And it's weather-sealed, so if you have a boat, I guess you're good to go. ;-)

Heavy...but a real workhorse w/ great image stabilization!

Yes, it's heavy and huge, but it (and/or the 24-70mm S lens) always travels with my S1 and/or S1R. Kudos to the team at Panasonic --- The combination of the lens IS and the body IS does wonders for images requiring use of zoom, even when handheld.
