Use any third-party tripod head on your Travel Tripod with the Universal Head Adapter from Peak Design. Simply remove the compact ball head and replace it with a tripod head of your choice and install it with the included 4mm hex wrench. The head threads onto the adapter's 3/8"-16 threaded mount, and it secures by tightening the three set screws into the bottom of your tripod head.

Is there anyway to add the extension column from the original or do you just lose out on some height with the adapter?
Yes, you can remove the original center column extension and attach this part to the short center column on your Peak Design Universal Head Adapter. Please view the 2nd video on the following link. The Peak Desing specialist demo how to detach the center column extension from the ballhead at 10:13 min.

Does the 3/8 screw on the head also have a 1/4-20 that can revealed by pushing down on the 3/8 screw sleeve like some of the edelkrone gear ?
Unfortunately, this uses the standard 3/8"-16 screw.
