Designed as a multi-purpose outdoor optic, the Meade Instruments 8x42 CanyonView ED Binocular features anti-reflection fully multi-coated high-performance extra-low dispersion glass that delivers crisp, true-color wide views of breathtaking landscapes, vistas, or cityscapes. Phase-corrected and dielectric-coated BAK4 roof prisms maximize light transmission through the prism system, limiting internal diffraction and interference and improving image resolution and contrast. The 42mm objectives boost the low-light performance without making the binocular too large or cumbersome, so you can easily carry it all day on the trail, in the field, or when sightseeing around the world.

Complementing its optical performance is a lightweight housing that is nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to make it waterproof and resistant to internal fogging when you move through extreme changes in temperature or environmental conditions. The body features an ergonomic design with rubber armor and strategically placed dimpling that offers a secure hold and a pleasant handling experience, with the large center focusing knob providing smooth adjustments. To help you with focusing and correcting for dioptric differences, the focus knob and the diopter ring are knurled and can be easily adjusted even when wearing gloves. Ideal for fast glassing on the go, the CanyonView comes with tethered caps that won't get lost when you're out and about and a shoulder harness integrated into its case that prevents it from swaying and swinging if you need to climb over rough and rocky terrain.

Optical Performance

  • Moderate 8x magnification brings subjects in close for viewing without narrowing the field of view and exit pupil or shortening the eye relief, greatly improving viewing comfort
  • 42mm objective lenses provide enhanced light-gathering capability while maintaining a compact form factor
  • Compact roof prism light path keeps the optical tubes thin for easier handling and packing
  • BAK4 prisms deliver a round exit pupil and a crisp and clear image with limited edge distortion
  • Phase-corrected prism coatings reduce internal interference to improve contrast and resolution
  • Highly reflective dielectric prism coatings maximize light transmission through the prism system
  • Extra-low dispersion (ED) glass lenses offer true color representation, with improved clarity, contrast, and sharpness
  • Anti-reflection fully multi-coated optics enhance light transmission for brighter and sharper views with enhanced contrast
  • Wide 60° apparent field of view allows user to see wide swaths of the landscape without having to pan their head back and forth—making it ideal for enjoying breathtaking views of natural wonders like the Grand Canyon
  • Spacious 395-foot field of view at 1000 yards

Use and Handling

  • Short closed-bridge configuration provides a stable platform for the internal focusing mechanism
  • Large knurled focus wheel is easy to manipulate in cold and wet weather or when wearing gloves
  • Diopter adjustment on the right ocular enables precise focusing even for users who normally wear corrective lenses
  • Twist-up rubber eye cups for comfortable viewing with or without eyewear
  • Integrated 1/4"-20 socket on front of bridge hinge enables the use of an optional tripod adapter for hands-free viewing
  • Exceptional 17.8mm eye relief improves viewing comfort and reduces eyestrain
  • Wide 5.25mm exit pupil covers pupils as they open and dilate in low light to keep the entire scene in view at all times

Construction Details

  • Slip-resistant armor with dimpling to improve grip security
  • Nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof and resistant to internal fogging
  • Tethered one-piece ocular rainguard and objective lens covers protect the lens surfaces without the fear of losing them when using the binocular
