A variable maximum aperture also helps to maintain an impressively compact profile to suit everyday shooting needs. Complementing the flexible design is a unique Center Macro Focus position, which enables working with close-up subjects at a 1:2 maximum magnification ratio, and an Optical Image Stabilizer also helps to achieve sharp imagery by minimizing the appearance of camera shake. Also, an STM motor affords impressively quiet and smooth autofocus performance and full-time manual focus override. The price is good. The coverage is good. Its a good lens; but, even in sunlight it was not producing the kind of sharpness that I had hoped for in an RF lens. I'm getting better images on my R5 using my old EF lens with an adapter.

I recently took this as my only lens on a trip to Dublin Ireland and was not disappointed. I managed to catch some great, clear, and sharp shots both outdoors and in. The constantly changing Irish weather was not an issue and the 24mmwife end was great for portraits and group shots and the 105mm gave me the reach for longer shots. Even in the dim interior of Trinity College Library I was able to get good shots with relatively little noise. Yes it would be better if this was a f/4 through the range but for the coast and the weight savings it was worth the trade off.

Hi--I don't know of any plans for a 24-105mm f/2.8 lens, although since there is a lot of demand for a lens like that, Canon or another company may be developing one. You might try a fast prime lens for hockey--it's less convenient, but you can get some great images with an f/2.8, f/2, or f/1.4 lens.

Let me rephrase this. I shoot in Manual Focus at night. I am not finding a way to put the lens in manual focus. Putting the camera in Manual Mode is easy. The only physical switch on the lens is the Focus/Control feature. No AF or MF option.

The Center Macro Position on the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 IS STM Lens would work at the wide end of the lens and would require manual focus when shooting at 5.12 inches from the subject.
