Dell's U2720Q has one USB Type-C input/output which supports DisplayPort 1.4 video, 5 Gb/s USB 3.0 data transfers, and delivers up to 90W of power to compatible devices. It also has DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 inputs, a USB 3.0 Type-C output that supports device charging up to 3A, and three USB 3.0 Type-A outputs, two of which support battery charging via the BC 1.2 spec up to 2A. This can be manually adjusted by using the Brightness function under Brightness/Contrast in the OSD menu. Also, USB Type-C is not supported on Windows versions prior to Windows 10 and the audio line-out port does not support headphones. Lastly, in order to use the USB Type-A ports on the rear of the display, the U2720Q must be connected to your system via USB Type-C.

Very bright, sharp, and accurate. Works well for my photography work.

My need is for professional, accurate color photo editing. I upgraded from a UltraSharp 24. It's amazing how much more working room you get. Comes calibrated and performs just as I expected.

Nice display quality, but with ergonomic issues

I would guess the decision to place the function key on the bottom right edge of the bezel is a classic case of form over function. The power button is a normal push up tact switch, but the other four function buttons are some funky push back and up design that have a mushy feel to them. And even holding the top of the display can cause it to move or shake which can be problematic, for example in the case of calibrating using a color meter. I'm comparing this with my two Asus ProArt displays that have normal tact switches on the the front of the bezel. Ok that requires One edge to be a bit fatter -- big deal -- the monitor has to be functional, not some designer's decoration! I wonder if the switches on this unit are normal or defective. In two days of asking this questions I still have no answer. Dell's customer service is absolutely horrible! Maybe the worst I've seen to date. I get it, customer service for many companies is not what it once was. These companies are having a hard time hiring, much less finding qualified employees. And then there is the packaging and shipping of this product. It arrived in the original Dell box, sealed with one small piece of tape. The box looked like FedEx Ground had run over it with a tractor or at least someone had walked on it. The tape had broken and when I picked it up the contents spilled out. A miracle that the display seems OK so far, but one cable is missing. I've been ordering from B&H for years and have always been more than happy with my purchases. This one is a rare disappointment. But B&H has great customer service, the offered to authorize a return or to replace the cable. I'm not going to return it if it is functioning properly. I just need to know if the switches are normal or perhaps damaged it shipping by FedEx Ground! I'm guessing they are normally funky and mushy! :-) As for calibration, it may be color calibrated, but it is not ready for photo editing.! The luminance was at least double the typical recommended values for photo editing. I highly recommend using a good calibration device right away. Comparing with my Asus ProArt 278CV (Also purchased at B&H), the Dell has a bit better RGB color accuracy that the Asus, though the Asus is not a 4K monitor. both of course are 100% sRGB. Both have good anti-glare displays. Asus makes a 4k version of this display, but B&H doesn't carry it. The Dell stand is a bit sturdier than that of the Asus and I like the opening in it to pass cables through. Considering what I consider an ergonomic mistake by Dell with the switches, in my opinion, the normal (non-sale) price is too high. If the Asus 4K had been available at its typical price, I might have chosen it. Granted, Asus doesn't have good customer service either!

Impressive

I was really impressed by the huge improvement over my old monitor. Stunned, in fact. Granted, my old monitor was pretty old, but still, very impressive improvement. This monitor is the size and resolution once reserved only for CAD Draftsmen. It ain't cheap, but if you want your screen resolution to be as good as, or even better than, your image resolution, then it's worth it. I use my monitor for television viewing as well as computer work and it's as good as any flat screen TV I've ever personally seen. I can heartily recommend this product (and heartily recommend B&H as well, for that matter!). It's so good I'm actually going to properly care for it!!... instead of treating it like a sneeze-guard, like I did my old one!

Top Notch

The monitor has handy multiple inputs of different connector types. The screen is bright and clear and at 4K, it's very sharp. The height and swivel is very easily adjustable with a very well-made stand. It is a snap to assemble right out of the box. I can't like this enough!

Great for Macbook, Not for Windows

By Patrick

On my desk, I have multiple computers which I'd like to switch back and forth between such that my monitor, keyboard, and mouse all function appropriately for the computer I'm using at the moment. Looking at the specs, it seemed like this had all of the right ports to allow me to do so. However, what I learned is that the USB C to C cable works well to connect to a Macbook and allow for all peripherals to function. However, for an older Windows PC, the USB C to A cable works for the peripherals but NOT for the monitor itself. Instead, a 2nd connection is required for the video (e.g., HDMI), and, to add to the frustration, this monitor does not come with an HDMI cable. This was disappointing. A 2nd point I'll make is that the monitor looks outstandingly clear and sharp for Mac, but for Windows the display is fuzzy and hard to read, no matter what resolution I choose. Finally, one thing I do really like about the monitor is the ability to adjust its height and tilt in virtually any direction. It is the most adjustable monitor stand I've encountered.

Okay picture, ergonomic problems

It puts pixels in your eye, and at that job it is O.K. Not incredible, but does the job. Aside from that, I hate this monitor and its stand. It can rotate both ways, tilt, and slide up and down. In none of these axes is there a positive detent at dead center. If you are the kind of person who will be annoyed if your display is not dead level-because for example it is slightly off parallel with some straight lines on the walls behind your desk-then this display will drive you crazy. I keep a spirit level in my drawer so I can fix it when it is visibly crooked. Why, you ask, would it ever beee crooked? Well friend, let me tell you. All of the features of this monitor are accessed using five small, hard-to-press buttons on the bottom edge. Pressing any of them, after you manage to find them, will undoubtedly disturb the attitude of the panel. It might have been just right but if you needed to switch from HDMI to DisplayPort, now it's leaning to the left by a few degrees and you're getting your spirit level out of the filing cabinet while your officemates whisper to each other about your mental health. Another irritating ergonomic quirk is you can't switch inputs or turn the dang thing off for half a minute after it loses communications with the last device that was on screen. So if your mac goes to sleep and you want to turn off the display, tough. You need to stand there waiting for it to decide to listen to the buttons again. Eventually you may train yourself to turn off the display first, but then you will feel like a chump for adapting your behavior to accommodate the quirks of an inanimate object.

User's manual no longer applies. Specs are correct.

As of 5 Jan 23 the user's manual of the B&H link states that the Dell U2720Q has two capabilities it no longer has, at least as far as my recent purchase, manufactured March 22, 2022, is concerned. (1) There is no OSD Menu anymore. Its button brings up a second incidence of the Input Source Function. I am guessing everything in the old OSD Menu is now automatically set. I did not check the function of the Preset color modes button. (2) The monitor can no longer be set to accommodate DP 1.1a input, the only DP input it can handle is DP 1.4. Technical Support at Dell is unaware of these changes. The monitor itself appears to be a 5-star as long as the situation described above is acceptable to you.
