Top Tier Memory Card

I purchased ProGrade CFexpress cards based on the recommendation of other professionals for their durability, transfer speed and robust construction. Using them in a 151 megapixel digital back on a medium format camera have proven them to be a wise choice.

Be careful to read ProGrade Digital's accompanying manual.

I did not read the manual for these memory cards until *after* I had bought them. I assumed that all high-quality CFexpress cards would be compatible with all cameras. This is not true. What ProGrade Digital calls their manual is actually a list of supported cameras. It tells which cameras use Gold and which use Cobalt memory cards. It turns out that my camera, because it is so fast and can shoot 4k video, *requires* faster memory than I bought. This will work for stills, but *not* for fast, 4k video. This was unclear to me until I read the manual. Don't make my mistake, and read the supported camera models *before* you buy.

I'm shooting with a Nikon Z6 but will be adding a Z9 to my kit. This card has been great for stills and video so far and I expect it to do everything I need when I'm capturing long-form 4K video with the Z9 in 2022.

I just tested this and it failed on 8K RAW recording after a few seconds. Re-tested several times, same issue. Made sure it was the only card in the camera. Tried 8K-D in RAW and 8K-U in all formats and all frame rates. I have firmware version 1.1.1 installed.

The canon R5 compatibility chart specifically states that the Gold versions of ProGrade cards are not fast enough for 8K.

Compatible with the Nikon D6 camera?
Asked by: Charles
Don't get this card for a D6. While it will work, it's a slow CFExpress card. Get the ProGrade Cobalt or a similar high performance card like the Sony Tough or Delkin Power or Black. My testing in the Z7ii, Z6, and D850 had the ProGrade Gold 60-70% slower than the better cards once the buffer filled.
