Like many I’ve been searching for a G-Drive replacement. Came to this by way of a recommendation from Mike Bombich, creator of carbon copy cloner. I’ve only had it a couple weeks but it’s probably the quietest HDD I have. It also has no annoying flashing light on the front which I love. Transfer speeds were fast. Hope it lasts and if it does I’m a convert.

The two stars review is for the fact that these do not work out of the box. I can't remember the steps for installing these and they do not show up in disk management. If anyone could help with installation instructions that would be great. I really thought I bookmarked the process after the last few attempts and having to re-google for answers every time. I hope I can change my review to 5 stars as these are really great hdd enclosures, just that they don't work ootb.

No, the Oyen Digital Novus USB Type-C Rugged 3.5" HDD Enclosure BH #OY3N1CBL is not compatible with the WD 18TB UltraStar DC HC550 7200 rpm SAS-3 3.5" Internal HDD (OEM) B&H #WE18TBSASHDD. You would need a drive with SATA like the WD 18TB UltraStar DC HC550 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5" Internal HDD BH #WE0F38459.

The Oyen Digital Novus USB Type-C Rugged 3.5" HDD Enclosure would not be suitable for an SSD, as it is designed specifically for 3.5" drives which require a power supply. If you are looking for a 2.5" SSD enclosure, you could consider BH #TRS0GSJ25CK3.
