question

I'd like to purchase the TB3 version to connect with my new TB3 PC laptop, but I'd also like to connect to my TB2 PC tower. Is TB3 backwards compatible with TB2 when using a PC via adapter? I've read the apple adapter is with apple products, but no info out there on PC products.
Asked by: Bill K.
Yes, Thunderbolt 3 is backwards compatible with Thunderbolt 2. It will simply operate at the Thunderbolt 2 speeds of the computer.

Sorry it does not. If you are like me and you updated 2 workstations only to realize that now only my Alienware Laptop can access the G-Tech AND there are NO adapters for almost any non-Mac motherboards out there then you'd be upset beyond compare on a daily basis. There are a couple of AMD (I think they were AMD) motherboards I found that allows you to add on a card and/or adapter allowing something of a TB3 connection albeit it at slower speeds (so I have been heavily informed but have not tried). I have talked to a whole heck of a lot of engineers at Dell/Alienware and other vendors about this situation, the lack of TB3 connection but it ALWAYS falls on worse then deaf ears. So my question now to G-Tech is why do I only have access to my G-Tech by a port that no non-Mac user can access with current hardware?!?!?!
