Godox M1 Overview

Dress up your video background and atmosphere with this RGB Mini Creative M1 On-Camera Video LED Light from Godox. The pocket-sized light allows you to adjust hue and saturation from 360 colors when in RGB mode, and the color temperature is adjustable from 2500 to 8500K to match an ambient light source. There are also 15 special effect modes and 40 presets that add speed and creativity to your shoot. It is rated with a high CRI of 97 that ensures natural and accurate color rendering.

The light features an integrated, articulating mounting bracket that includes multiple 1/4"-20 threads for mounting in a variety of positions. There's also a built-in mic to utilize the Music mode, which allows the light to change based on the beat of the music. The integrated 2410mAh battery charges using the included USB Type-C cable, and it lasts about 2.5 hours when at 100% power. The LCD screen on the rear is controlled by two control dials and one button on the side. Also included with the light is a carry pouch, a 1/4"-20 to shoe adapter, and an Allen wrench.

I asked the tec at B & H about on camera lights and he mentioned that the M1 was a favorite. They had all sold out ad more were expected. I waited for a short period and they came in. This light solves ALL my lighting problems. The features like this light responding to Music is just plain Awesome. And that's only ONE of the number of features. Long story short, I had to get a Second One.

I originally bought two of these for lighting Zoom calls. These are incredibly versatile with continuously variable color temperature to match whatever room light I'm in. Variable brightness levels too. That swinging arm on the side lets you mount and adjust the light in multiple axes and has 1/4 threaded mounts. I rarely use them at more than 50% brightness and they last for several hours. Now I use these for all kinds of things: as a work light in the garage, fixing plumbing under a sink - we even used the special effects modes for Halloween lighting. Who knew these would be so versatile!

This little gem was exactly the right choice for doing closeup work. I haven't taken advantage of all the other features yet, but the articulating arm is brilliant. I've used it once, and will be keeping it in my camera bag from now on.

I love the colors and effects. I use it for bride prep shots for shoes, rings, etc. I get great results. It's not for a reception for sure unless you put it right next to toast giver. I found a way to run it for more than 2 hours. I use my portable charger with USB-c attached to my light stand. It runs 5 hours non-stop. I bought 2 of those and I'm so happy so far.

The Godox M1 is a fantastic on or off camera light. The batteries last for hours and I use it for my on-line Zoom meeting. You cannot go wrong with the Godox M1....

How does this compare to the Boling P1? Looks to be a clone of it, down to the swivel mount.

The swivel mount and rest of the light is similar but not a 1:1 clone. For half the price (I purchased at $79), I think it’s great deal. Every mode is very bright and vibrant. I don’t ha e the P1, so I can’t compare directly, though.

Will this light stay on forever if you have it ...

Will this light stay on forever if you have it plugged into an AC adapter through the USB-C charging port? Can you effectively power it through the USB-C charging port?

I have this light and I can turn it on and have it charging at the same time. What I am not sure about is at what percentage power output exceeds power input. I doubt it can be powered forever, but you can increase its runtime considerably.

It's based on LED technology so it does not get very hot. There is a very negligible warmth that will build after prolonged usage, but it never really gets hot.
