I purchased these for my NAS... although they are only 4 TB each. I built my Synology With 5 drives. Giving me about 15 TB with a SynoyHybrid Raid... so far they have been dependable drives as I had two prior to my build. These are CMR drives vs SMR drives which some of the WD Western Digital NAS have been, which has been controversial and an issue. Although there are faster drives out there, these suit my needs and my pocketbook...

I've used Seagate products for years (decades, actually) and the 8TB IronWolf 7200 was an easy choice to make for the mirrored pair on my new NAS. When one failed after only 258 hours, Seagate made it quick and easy to replace and was very prompt shipping a replacement drive.

This is ST4000VN008, the vendor/ manufacturer did a special sku (looks like retail package) for retailers like B&H. The drive would be the same

g-speed wants you to only use there drives and is owned by wd. lacie drive bays will work with these drives.

Yes, however if running RAID you should always match the drive types exactly. If running in JBOD this would be perfectly fine.

Is this really 7,200 RPM? I have seen several buyers (on another site) stating that it is 5,400 RPM.

Seagate IronWolves 8TB and higher are 7200 RPM, and IronWolves 6TB and below are 5900RPM... so the same brand has different drive speeds based on drive capacity. That may be causing some confusion. But yes, the 8TB IronWolf drive is 7200 RPM.

What is the meaning of "(retail)" at the description of this ST12000VNA008 drive and the difference with the ST12000VNA007?

Retail is all in the packaging, the drives are the same. The main difference between the IronWolf Pro and the Exos enterprise drives, aside from specifications, is the ability to differentiate in the way they handle caching of data. IronWolf utilizes the write-back policy and the Exos Enterprise deploys the write-through policy.
