The sensor is paired with the Canon DiGIC DV7 image processor, which uses the sensor's raw information and processes it for various applications such as high frame rate recording, raw recording, HDR-PQ output, electronic image stabilization (EIS), and proxy recording. The camera records up to DCI 4K resolution video to dual CFexpress cards, and an SD card slot is available to record additional images. High frame rates up to 120 fps can be recorded in 4K raw, and up to 180 fps in 2K cropped mode. Canon's Cinema RAW Light and XF-AVC recording formats are supported, providing DCI 4K images with a 10-bit, 4:2:2 Long GOP codec. Proxy recording is also supported, which allows a significant boost to your post-production speed.

For more flexibility during post-production, the camera also offers Canon's Log 2 and Log 3 gamma modes, which results in excellent tonal reproduction in the highlight and low-light regions of an image, and an expanded dynamic range. The C300 Mark III also supports custom user LUTs that can be utilized on monitors, the LCD, or viewfinder to ensure the most accurate color. Canon's Dual Pixel CMOS AF (autofocus) support allows you to not only provide accurate autofocus, but it also features touch AF and face detection.

The camera features up to 12G-SDI output over a single BNC cable, timecode I/O, and genlock input BNCs. It supports up to 4-channel audio using the internal mic, mini-mic input, and XLR ports, and an expansion unit can be added to support up to four XLR inputs. The body has a modular design that can either be stripped down completely or be built up using the included handle, 4.3" rotating touchscreen LCD unit with full controls, grip, and thumb rest.

Canon Super 35 Dual Gain Output (DGO) Sensor

The EOS C300 Mark III features Canon's next-generation Super 35mm Dual Gain Output (DGO) Sensor. This new sensor is capable of dynamic ranges in excess of 16 stops and is compatible with Canon's exclusive Dual Pixel CMOS Autofocus technology. The DGO Sensor is a newly developed imaging system that generates high dynamic range and maintains low-noise levels by reading out each pixel with different gains. It combines images using pixels shot with a saturation-prioritizing amplifier for bright areas, and a lower-noise, noise-prioritizing amplifier for darker areas.

DIG!C DV7 Image Processor

The EOS C300 Mark III features Canon's DIG!C DV7 image processor that takes the extensive raw information captured from the imaging sensor and processes it for output. DiG!C is also the engine behind features such as high frame rate recording, Dual Gain Output (DGO) Sensor, Dual Pixel Autofocus, Cinema Raw Light Recording, HDR (PQ) output, Electronic Image Stabilization, and proxy recording.

Dual Pixel CMOS Autofocus with Touch AF and Face Detection

The Cinema EOS C300 Mark III features Canon's Dual Pixel CMOS AF Technology. For DAF, each pixel in the camera's CMOS sensor is configured with two photodiodes. Two independent image signals can then be detected at each photosite and compared using phase difference to provide autofocus with compatible lenses. DAF can survey the scene and recognize not only whether the subject is in focus or not, but in which direction (near or far), and by how much. DAF also powers the intuitive Focus Guide for users who prefer to focus manually but enjoy the positive feedback DAF provides through the guide interface.

High Frame Rate; 4K 120p and 2K CROP 180p

The EOS C300 Mark III is capable of ultra-high frame rates with its new chip design and DiG!C DV7 processor. Frame rates up to 120 fps can be obtained in 4K, while 2K CROP mode provides even greater flexibility with speeds up to 180 fps.

Canon Log 2 and 3 Gamma

The EOS C300 Mark III supports both Canon Log 2 and Canon Log 3 gamma. In post-production, Canon Log is designed to reproduce the entire tonal range that the CMOS image sensor is capable of. Log workflows provide the user with a higher dynamic range, more highlight and shadow retention, and more flexibility in grading.

Canon Log 2 provides the largest dynamic range and image detail. While Canon Log 2 provides the most post-production flexibility and full dynamic range of the sensor, it typically requires more time in color correction.

For users looking for most of the benefits of Log workflow, but with shorter turnaround times, Canon Log 3 provides an alternative with only a slightly reduced dynamic range of 14 stops.

Modular Design

A new modular design allows productions to optimize and customize the EOS C300 Mark III to specific shooting needs. Accessories and expansion units can be easily attached to provide different levels of functionality. The camera is equally at home fully rigged with a large zoom lens, FIZ unit, audio accessories, and rangefinder as it is stripped down flying on a drone.

Canon Cinema RAW Light and XF-AVC Recording

Thanks to the powerful DIG!C DV7 image processing platform, the EOS C300 Mark III can record Cinema RAW Light directly to two onboard CFexpress cards. Cinema RAW Light offers plenty of freedom for grading with a dynamic range that can exceed 16 stops with Dual Gain Output (DGO) technology while maintaining file sizes that are about 1/3 to 1/5 the size of Canon Cinema RAW. Canon Cinema RAW Light offers a great combination of codec efficiency and quality.

In addition to the conventional Intra-based XF-AVC codecs, a 4:2:2 10-bit Long GOP-based codec has been added with consideration for a balance of quality and data rates. This new Long GOP-based codec has a data rate that is less than half that of the conventional Intra codecs. This new lightweight codec makes it easier for users to reduce media costs and work with cloud-based infrastructures.

The EOS C300 Mark III Digital Cinema Camera incorporates the new Canon XF-AVC codec that allows 4K and 2K image data to be recorded internally onto CFexpress cards in workflow-efficient file sizes using advanced video compression. Using the XF-AVC codec, the EOS C300 Mark III can record a variety of frame fates up to 4K 120 fps and 2K up to 180 fps.

LM-V2 4.3" LCD Touchscreen Monitor

The LM-V2 4.3" LCD Monitor is an easy-to-view touch panel with approximately 2.76 million dots. The monitor easily attaches to the EOS C300 Mark III using included accessories and can be adjusted to different viewing positions. The LCD monitor is capable of displaying both image framing and visual confirmation of camera settings. Additionally, the display has a control interface to make it easy to access and change camera settings.

4-Channel Audio Recording

The EOS C300 Mark III supports up to 4-channel audio recording. Audio input from the camera's internal microphone, mini mic port, and XLR ports can be assigned to the four different audio channels. With the Expansion Unit EU-V2, a total of four XLR ports are supported. This flexibility allows for a wide range of audio devices to be connected and mixed directly on the camera.

Support for Custom User LUTs

Users can upload and apply custom LUTs to the EOS C300 Mark III. LUTs can be assigned to specific output terminals, LCD, and viewfinder. Clients can be viewing one LUT, while production works from another, giving different production roles the ability to customize the look of the image to their needs.

User-Interchangeable Lens Mounts

User-interchangeable lens mounts and an available B4 mount adapter gives operators the freedom to make bold creative choices based on the subject matter. The EOS C300 Mark III ships with an EF mount that can be user-swapped to an optional Locking EF (EF-C) or PL mount. Each mount swaps easily by simply removing four M3 hex screws. A shim set is provided with each mount kit in order to adjust back focus for the precision in focusing accuracy that professionals rely on.

Anamorphic Lens Support

The EOS C300 Mark III offers cinematographers support for the use of both 2.0 and 1.33 anamorphic lens types. Users can achieve the wide cinematic looks, oval bokeh, and striking flares particular to anamorphic glass. It is a distinctly cinematic palette that is within reach for your next project.

Proxy Recording

Higher resolution, greater bit depths, and faster frame rates provide versatility and greater image quality but come at the cost of much larger file sizes. Proxy files can greatly speed up the editorial process by providing a lower bandwidth alternative for initial file sharing and rough cutting.

Canon's powerful high-speed DIGIC DV7 image processor makes it possible for the EOS C300 Mark III to simultaneously record 2K Proxy files. Cinema RAW Light can be recorded to the internal CFexpress card, while an XF-AVC 2K 4:2:0 8-bit proxy can be recorded directly to an internal SD card. The C300 Mark III can also apply LUTs to Proxy recording.

Electronic Image Stabilization

The EOS C300 Mark III includes the same built-in five-axis electronic IS introduced with the EOS C500 Mark II that works with almost any lens, including anamorphic.

12G-SDI Support

Support for 12G-SDI allows for the EOS C300 Mark III to output 4K resolution up to 60p over a single BNC cable.

RC-V100 Support and LANC Compatible

The EOS C300 Mark III body has a remote A terminal (LANC) on the body and supports remote B (RS-422) in both expansion unit EU-V1 and EU-V2. Beautiful images + Canon Color Science

This camera is near perfect. The default codec is easy to edit, CLOG3 is a dream to work with if you are willing to sacrifice 1 stop of dynamic range (dynamic range is already solid), and S&Q modes are beautiful. I only subtracted 1 star because of a few OS quirks and the fact that the autofocus on this camera isn't nearly as good as some of Sony's offerings in and around this price range. It works ok when your subject's face is perfectly visible/for talking heads.

I wrote a one star review complaining about a malfunctioning HDMI port. That's still an issue, but I just switched to using the Monitor port for now. When things slow down this winter, I'll send it in to get fixed so I can make sure I have all outputs functional. That being said, besides that hardware issue, I've been incredibly satisfied with the camera. One way to know if a romantic relationship has a likelihood of lasting is if you can describe it as 'easy', right? That's my experience anyway. Well, my relationship with this camera, and my experience using it is just, well, EASY. Form factor: perfect (as long as you upgrade to a V or gold mount solution - the native batteries are bone bruisers if you're running and gunning). Menu: classic canon ease. Quality, of build and image: amazing. Autofocus: life changing. Dynamic range: woohoo. I've been on maybe 15 shoots and logged hundreds of hours at this point and I'm not left wanting for anything. I've felt increasingly guilty for leaving such a bad review and wouldn't want to dissuade anyone from buying this camera, knowing that some port issues are possible. Losing an HDMI is less than ideal but it's dwarfed by how much I'm loving this camera. Thems my two cents.

I love this camera it's really good. The C300s have always been described as work horses, and I've had wonderful experiences using the older 2 versions in fairly rough conditions. However, my C300 iii totally malfunctioned for absolutely no reason on its 4th voyage. The camera randomly started recording in psychedelic noisy colors. When I told canon what happened they told me to send it in, after waiting weeks for the repair I got it back without any explanation as to why or what had happened. Thankfully It hasn't bugged out on me since I got it back, but the amount of stress, time and money it cost me this hiccup caused makes me think I should have waited until more c300iiis were out in the wild.

Best Camera Ever - Ignore the Review about the SDI Ports

I felt compelled to write a quick review of this camera after reading another user's review of faulty SDI ports on the C300 III. It should be known that modern cinema cameras that use 12G SDI ports require a special protocol for disconnecting and reconnecting SDI cables to the port. If a user is unaware of this protocol, they can easily short out the SDI port on their camera or external monitor. This is currently an issue on EVERY CINEMA CAMERA AND MONITOR that features a 12G SDI port. In fact, it is happening so much that Arri released a white paper on the issue. Just look up Arri Preventing Damage to SDI Outputs and you'll find it. If you want the condensed version here it is --- 1.) When connecting battery/power and SDI to your camera, FIRST connect power, then SDI. --- 2.) When disconnecting, FIRST disconnect the SDI, then disconnect power. -- Also helpful is using shielded power and SDI cables and avoiding D-tap connectors when possible. -- As for the C300 III, it's the best camera I've ever owned, hands down, and I've owned them all. It's incredibly easy to match the image to an Alexa. Don't be afraid of this camera based on that other user's review. His negative review is based on user error, and not a fault of the camera.

HDMI stopped working after two hours of use

HDMI stopped working before my first job with it. Called canon and they instructed me to send it in for repairs. Not enough time to do that before my upcoming gig, so I'll just run the Canon monitor that comes with the camera and then send it in after. Beyond frustrating to spend this much on a camera and have it lose function immediately. Sounds like I'm at least the second one on this review list to have the same problem. Even if Canon fixes the problem, my confidence in their company and brand has been shaken. I just switched back to Canon from Sony and am now regretting my decision.

The C300 MK III offers everything that I could desire in a compact, and easily carried package. It's ability to record Canon RAW Lite internally is a big bonus, and its feature packed body does not leave me wanting for more, In fact, I have barely scratched the surface in terms of what it is capable of performing. My only beef is that it is sold with an EF mount whose lenses are gradually being phased out, and while the mount can be changed to PL, the lenses are quite costly and more cumbersome than their EF cousins. Other than that, I love the camera.

I've used the C300 for over 20 shoots now, and it's proven to be an incredibly reliable beast suitable for virtually any application. The image is, in my opinion, the closest you can get to an Arri sensor -- probably thanks to Canon's similar DGO technology -- and the modularity of the camera was executed in a thoughtful way that does not sacrifice the pick up and shoot factor. The redundancy of the C300's physical buttons is also highly reassuring, with two record buttons and three joysticks to operate the menu system (not counting the scroll wheel, which also navigates the menus). The camera is very easy to rig, and for this purpose I strongly recommend Bright Tangerine's Expert Kit, as well as Wooden Camera's V-mount plate which utilizes the screws on the back of the camera to attach. If you're using V-mount power and have a regular Canon BP also installed, you can hot-swap the V-mount batteries and switch them out without interruption. This has proven super handy during interviews, when the V-mount battery is already low. With a swappable mount, it's great to throw some photo glass on for the everyday stuff, but have the flexibility for MPs and other premium cine lenses when clients can afford that. The image really flexes all it has to offer with premium optics attached. Another great factor that probably isn't talked about enough is the excellent audio solutions this camera offers, with an ordinary mic jack and two full-sized XLR inputs. In a recent shoot, I was able to feed wireless lavs and an MKH 416 straight into the footage. With four audio channels, this permitted a backup channel for each input, which can be lifesaving. The preamps are also incredibly clean -- with a high-end mic, there is no noise. There's also a low-pass filter which, although non-adjustable, can come in handy when it's really needed. I really have no complaints with this camera -- it succeeds at what it's meant to be: a heavy all-arounder suitable for anyone carrying more than a backpack. That said, a part of me is envious of C70 shooters who, thanks to the RF mount, are able to throw a speed-booster on and reap the benefits of both full frame, extra low-light performance, AND the DGO sensor. This, in my opinion, is the biggest reason to purchase the C70 -- and it's why I still am likely to purchase one after owning the C300 for several months.

Reviews mention it can shoot 4K 120fps. But the specs here on B&H say only goes up to 59.94fps. Does it shoot 120fps in 4K, and if so what codecs (RAW, 4:2:2, or 4:2:0)?

This is misleading. Note how Canon includes the terms "High Frame Rate" or "up to" whenever they mention 4k 120fps. If the C300 did in fact capture 4k 120fps as a standard setting, it would appear under one of the recording modes.

After I purchased the camera I went through the same process. I weighed options with one of the B&H employees in the video department and we decided on the IndiPRO Tools 12V Power Supply with 4-Pin XLR Connection model available in store. We even plugged it into the floor model C300 mk iii to check it worked as intended. Had no issues with it so far.

Do EF-S lenses work on the C300 Mark III? Specifically the Canon EF-S Zoom 17 - 55mm f/2.8 IS USM? Would it vignette? If yes then can that be corrected with Peripheral illumination?

Yes they are fully compatible with the C300 Mark III. EF-S lenses will not vignette on the C300 Mark III.

That all depends on the setting. If you are recording at 160 Mbps, you'd get around 105 minutes on a 128GB. If you are shooting at 800 Mbps you'd get closer to 20 minutes on a 128GB.
