HATE THIS PRINTER

I've had this printer for a couple of years now and I loth it. Absolutely can not stand to print with it. I have a P800 also and it runs circles around the P900. I can hit print for my P800 and P900 at the same time and the P800 spits out 50 prints compared to the 900's mere 5 sheets. Yes you read that right, 5 whole prints in the same amount of time. UGH!!!! And to think this was the upgrade to the P800. I've hated this printed since the day I bought it and ran it for the first time. Waste of money.

The Epson P900 is Excellent

I have had a P800 for many years and it has printed many excellent photos. So far it seems that the new P900 exceeds the performance of the P800 in every way. It is a delight to use and the resolution and color are both beyond excellent.

Finally! I Got It Done!

Fussing and fiddling with my Epson XX, which had gone sour (because of my lack of frequent printing), finally got to be too expensive and time-consuming. For reasons not important for this review, I had also let three complete sets of unopened ink sit idle way past expiration. As an Epson fan for many years, other interests and obligations replaced my photography effort, and my printer dried up. Word to the wise. I could get the refurbishing job done or upgrade my printer. I upgraded to the Epson P900 and am thrilled at the ease of setup, the simplicity of printing, and the quality of the finished print. Paper feeds so dependably. Black ink is not purged when switching from matte to glossy and back. The on-printer control panel is a blessing because it works perfectly and is easy to see. It's great to have an ink waste tank as well. And it's curiously addictive to watch the print come to life through the viewing window. The P900 is well worth the price, has useful improvements, and puts out top-notch prints. I highly recommend it for pros and serious amateurs!

good printer, be sure to get extra warranty

i'm now on my second p900 printer. i might have originally bought the canon 17 wide printer, but it was a bit to wide for my home studio area. anyway, the first p900 started giving me smudge marks after only two years of use. no amount of cleaning, adjusting, new ink carts would solve the problem. fortunately i had the allstate insurance and shipped it to them. on return, i noted they snapped a tiny plastic bracket on the cover and i had to ship it back yet again. anyway, allstate could not repair that small part and reimbursed me to get a new printer; altho I was out the value of the installed almost-new carts. so this is now my replacement and hopefully will endure for a few years. and, yes, i bought the extra warranty for the replacement also! another suggestion...hold onto the original box and a set of 10% full ink carts to use if you ever have to send in the printer for service!

Random channels fully clogged after warranty expiration.

On the surface, I absolutely love this printer. The first one I was sent required a replacement by Epson. I thought This is fine, sometimes machines just aren't manufactured right. They replaced the unit without issue and I had a great time making prints with its replacement. Fast forward to a few months after the warranty expired. My VM and V (Magenta and Violet) channels are completely clogged. Cleaning the print head does nothing to improve it. Now that the warranty is expired, what am I supposed to do? Keep throwing hundreds of dollars of ink away doing deep cleans until morale improves? Buy a new printer? Epson, if you're reading these, do better.

Even more versatile

Bought to replace P600, even better print quality and now prints directly from source, even cell phones, as intelligence is built into the printer. Get the roll paper for even greater versatility.

Don't buy this one!

I have been a loyal Epson user since 1994. However, this one has failed... repeatedly. The first unit could not load through the front feed, no matter how many different ways and settings I used. And, the rear feed left pizza cutter marks. Epson Tech Support sent me a second one. Pizza marks were less, but still there. And, front feed did not work. Epson Tech Support sent me a third one. Same issues. Can't return it here, since the return window has closed. And, I don't have the right serial number any more (thanks Epson!) 1 bad unit happens some times. 3 bad units? No thanks!

Is all printing borderless? In other words, no margins for signatures, etc? Please explain why?
Asked by: Martin
Borderless is a feature that you can choose to use or not. When printing a photo, many people like to print all the way to the edges, just like how a print from a photo lab looks. Others like to have a white border around their photos. Both options are available on the P900.

I shoot black and white film. How does the print quality of this printer compare to a dark room print specifically for black and white?
Asked by: Bret
The Epson SureColor P900 compares fairly well, if not outperforms dark room prints if used properly although that is always open to subjective opinions. Thanks to its 4 shades of black, it can produce great Black & white prints.

Does this machine have to be connected to the internet to operate?
Asked by: Sarah
It needs an internet connection to update the firmware and software, and also to download .icc profiles for Epson papers. I tried twice to download the updated firmware to my "connected" computer then install it after transferring via USB, but failed both times. However, by connecting the "photo" computer to the internet, it was no problem.
