Epson P900 Reviews

New Printer

Dealing with B&H is without compromise. The P900 replaced a 12 year old EPSON 3800 that was becoming problematic. I'm presently running test photos with EPSON and Canson papers. When compared to my prior test photos with the 3800 there is a distinct difference. Would not hesitate to recommend the P900.

I had a bit of a problem downloading the software correctly, but once that was solved, The printer had been terrific. Best printer I've ever had and I've had some good ones before

Great, so far!!

My former printer was Epson 3880 and began to show common age issues of bleeding black ink streaks and loss of contrast, so it was sold for parts and replaced with the new P900. So far, has been great experience. Easy set up; actually a tad smaller footprint than the 3880. Like the new interface and new, center-loading top-loading paper tray. Do not miss the black ink changeover whatsoever, which was a huge waste of time, ink and $$. Print quality has been stunning; perhaps a little faster, quieter, smoother-operating than the 3880. I'd give it a higher rating but need to see how it continues to perform after a couple months of use.

Defective product, warranty only provides refurbished

We received a defective printer. Epson verified this via photos of the barely legible print tests. They agreed to send us a refurbished printer as a replacement for the brand new printer we had just purchased. We balked and they made a one-time exception and promised to send us a new printer to replace the brand new (but defective) unit we purchased. Epson then sent us a refurbished printer after promising to send a new one. Still trying to work out a refund with them . . . We've been using Epson high-end ink printers for over 10 years but over that time we've seen the quality of Epson printers and ink decline. Switching to Canon.

Excellent machine

This printer is surprisingly petite considering it handles 27" paper and is perfectly congruent with a small office or work space. The image quality is excellent - no complaints at all. Build quality is nowhere near as sturdy as my previous 4880, but seems adequate and to purpose. I've had no feed problems with feed except when I neglected to return the front feeder to its retracted position. The printer growled to let me know of my rrror Be aware that the initial ink set will take a substantial during initial setup Budget for additional ink soon. All in all, I'm very satisfied.

Print Quality

I purchased the P900 as a replacement for the Epson 3880 and was skeptical if the P900 could produce the same quality. It did. The P900 is more compact than the 3880 and it's evident Epson was looking for cost savings to maintain costs within a range. Setup was straight forward. Only concern is that in order to complete the setup one has to have an internet connection to download software. The 3880 was shipped with a CD. The ink carts are less expensive than those for the 3880 however they contain less ink.

When my Epson Stylus 3880 broke, I chose the P900 to replace it. Quick order and shipping from B&H and I was printing again. Very small learning curve and excellent prints. Nor regrets.

Quality I could never have imagined.

The 17x22 prints that are coming out of this printer are simply phenomenal. The ease of use compared to previous models greatly appreciated.

Is all printing borderless? In other words, no margins for signatures, etc? Please explain why?
Asked by: Martin
Borderless is a feature that you can choose to use or not. When printing a photo, many people like to print all the way to the edges, just like how a print from a photo lab looks. Others like to have a white border around their photos. Both options are available on the P900.

I shoot black and white film. How does the print quality of this printer compare to a dark room print specifically for black and white?
Asked by: Bret
The Epson SureColor P900 compares fairly well, if not outperforms dark room prints if used properly although that is always open to subjective opinions. Thanks to its 4 shades of black, it can produce great Black & white prints.

Does this machine have to be connected to the internet to operate?
Asked by: Sarah
It needs an internet connection to update the firmware and software, and also to download .icc profiles for Epson papers. I tried twice to download the updated firmware to my "connected" computer then install it after transferring via USB, but failed both times. However, by connecting the "photo" computer to the internet, it was no problem.

2 Questions: is this printer prone to clogging the print heads similar to other Epson printers? 2.How does the roll paper feeder work after you cut the print off? Seems like you would have an uneven paper edge that would confuse the printer on the next print.
Asked by: Ed
Epson has addressed all these issues over the years. Inkjet printers however, must always be run at least once every few weeks to keep the nozzles from clogging by printing a full color page or performing a nozzle cleaning. This goes for any brand of inkjet.
