Epson P700 Reviews

Fooled Me Twice

This printer has feed issues, still. I owned two 3800s, both had feed issues. I really like Epson and own a 64, 44, 24 so I was so hoping they had resolved the feed issues on the 17. I was wrong. We print moab artists card stock on the 17, as always, it seems to be a mechanical issue not accepting the stock. It makes all sorts of noises like it is adjusting for the paper but doesn't take it, nor accept it if you try to assist by gently helping. I should have paid attention to the mixed reviews and will not purchase Epson again.

Easy Peasy Setup

The purchase and setup of the Epson P700 was so easy. The item arrived in pristine condition. It took me all of about 30 minutes to remove it from the carton, set it up, and make my first print on it. My only complaint would be that Epson could provide more ink in the cartridges for the consumer.

Good, but...

I print 100s of 4x6 prints and I like to print in large batches. Epson says I can load up to 30 4x6 sheets. This is true if I use Epson Inkjet Photo Paper Glossy which is a thin stock and lies concave on a flat surface with glossy side up. I prefer Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy II which has slightly thicker stock and lies convex. With Canon paper I can print only 6 at a time. The printer ejects more than 6 sheets, a serious nuisance when I want to print large batches. No issues with quality which is consistently good. Ink is expensive but I don't know how it compares to its competition.

Printer is less than two years old and lightly used - I barely put a dent in the first set of replacement inks that I installed. The printer had an error on start up and essentially dumped all the ink into the maintenance box. Out of warranty, so Epson support offered no help besides suggesting the main board has a serious issue and to contact an authorized repair center. What a waste.

Great Printer

So far, this has been a great printer. Pictures are fantastic. Even though the paper trays appear fragile, they are up to the job. I read the reviews and can honestly say I have not encountered any of the feed issues. The printer has performed like a dream, flawlessly.

Paper Feed is the Issue

Over the years I've had four 13 printers in the gallery. The paper feed has gotten progressively worse with each successive model, especially with notecards. The print quality is excellent when you can get the paper to feed, but this can be a frustrating printer to work with, requiring a lot of babying.

If I know I will not be using the printer for a month or two, is there a way to protect the printhead from drying out?
Asked by: Natasha
While I do not have this particular Epson model, if the printer is in a low humidity environment it helps to keep the printer in a higher humidity environment. One way is to have a plastic bag that completely encloses the printer when not in use and keep a tray of water or wet towels inside the bag. Monitor the humidity inside the bag with a humidity meter and try to keep it up at 60% to 75%.
