Epson P700 Reviews

Big improvement over R3000

By Mark
Rated 5 out of 5
Date: 2025-05-26

I've had an Epson R3000 for several years and it stopped working reliably last week. After reading the reviews for this one, I was concerned that I might be disappointed with it. I picked it up this morning, set it up this afternoon and printed my first print. This printer is MUCH better than the R3000. In my first attempts at printing, I had much less trouble than I used to have with the R3000. Yes, it takes a long time to make a print, but no longer than my other printer. It's much quieter. It has new features to support making digital negatives. There's a replaceable maintenance box that promises to make it easier to keep the printer clean. It's smaller. It's only day one, but so far, I'm very happy with the purchase.

Tedious wait times, tedious paper loading

So little ink offers at purchase, it was an insult. The printer prints quickly but it takes so long to start up, and every little button you must push, and there are many, takes more wait time. It can take 10 minutes or more to get to the actual printing. The next issue I have is how poorly, how tricky and tedious it is to load manual paper in the front feeder. I do a lot of fine art prints on heavy papers 350 gm or better. The manual feed process is a centre load, rather to the right edge, which my old R3000 required. It is easy, way to easy to not get the load quite right, and I am a very experienced printer. It is tedious and frequently fails, so you take even more time loading and reloading. Once you get to the actual print the quality is really impressive, beautiful prints. However, this machine really sucks down the ink. I am alarmed at how quickly the tiny tanks deplete. I live and work very remotely, so getting these very expensive inks in a timely way is very hard for me. I cannot understand at all why you made such tiny, expensive ink tanks for this fine printer. It is an insult to reason. I been using Epson printers for my work since around 1983. This is the first time I feel you guys have insulated me as a user.

If I know I will not be using the printer for a month or two, is there a way to protect the printhead from drying out?
Asked by: Natasha
While I do not have this particular Epson model, if the printer is in a low humidity environment it helps to keep the printer in a higher humidity environment. One way is to have a plastic bag that completely encloses the printer when not in use and keep a tray of water or wet towels inside the bag. Monitor the humidity inside the bag with a humidity meter and try to keep it up at 60% to 75%.
