Distinguished by its updated sleeker and lighter weight design, the Viltrox AF 85mm f/1.8 FE II is the second-generation of this portrait-length prime designed for Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras. The lens's short-telephoto focal length pairs with the bright f/1.8 design to suit working in a variety of lighting conditions and also for controlling depth of field and isolating subject matter. The optical design comprises one extra-low dispersion element, one aspherical element, and four elements made from highly transparent glass, which all help to reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations in order to realize high clarity and sharpness. An HD Nano multi-layer coating has also been applied to suppress flare and ghosting for improved contrast when working in strong lighting conditions. Additionally, the lens features an STM motor for quick, quiet autofocus performance along with a minimum focusing distance of 2.6' for working with close-up subjects.

Viltrox 85mm f/1.8 STM II Reviews
I'm impressed
This lens has a very solid build quality feel to it, the lens caps and hood attach easily, and the images are sharp with nice bokeh. Colors pre-edit look good and appear to be accurate. I shot the attached unedited jpeg photos in the shade during daytime at f/1.8 using a Canon R5.
Great reach for travel.
Works great hand in hand with my 45mm for travel. Perfect combo for me.
Fun Macro
Exceptionally sharp imagers.
Just bought this used
Over all super excited to have an 85mm in my collection, went out today took some photos and I'm amazing at the sharpness of it ! Only draw back is since I purchased it used the lens hood has been damaged and it was a pain to get off the lens. I did inspect it once I got it off and it look likes someone didn't put it on correctly and kept trying to force it on, trying to see what I can do to get another one but over all lens looked brand new and performs amazingly
Incredibly UNDERRATED!!!
I watched a ton of YouTube videos on the best RF 85mm lenses. You can have an 85 f1.4 if you want but it's 200 dollars more (that's Canadian) my copy is VERY sharp at f1.8 and has minimal chromatic aberration and fast autofocus. If you are doing photos mostly this is a sweet lens to get into a good prime 85. If you are doing video and photos you might want a lens with stabilization instead. I have put this on my R and RSC 2 and it's a sweet combo for beautiful shots. Highly recommend. I did notice some flaring when shooting with car headlights at night but it was pretty harsh so ill let it pass. Check out some sample photos too
Best budget lens
Awesome portrait lens & the bokah effect is stunning.
You can't ask for more!
It's definitely worth of money. $399 for this lens could be a steal lol. Nice bokeh and it's much better than Sony 85mm f1.8. AF is fast enough. I heard that you can get f1.6 if you update firmware, but haven't tried that yet. Anyway it's as sharp as I expected.
Great budget 85mm!
The lens is great. Although I do wish they sent a cord to plug in with it to update the lens firmware. Other then that, it has been great to work with, used it at a local car show.
