EIZO CS2740 Overview

By B&H Photo's

Designed for those who need a detail-oriented, comfortable, and creative workflow for creative fields that include photography, video editing, or design, the ColorEdge CS2740 26.9" 16:9 Wide Gamut 4K IPS Monitor from EIZO gives you everything you need to keep your imagination flowing. It delivers a UHD 4K resolution, a 26.9" diagonal viewing area, and USB Type-C connectivity. So that the ColorEdge CS2740 may be calibrated to your preferred settings, an external EX4 calibration sensor is available as a separate purchase.

EIZO designed the ColorEdge CS2740 with an anti-glare panel, a native resolution of 3840 x 2160, In-Plane Switching (IPS) technology, 10-bit support for 1.07 billion colors, a 16-bit LUT, a widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio, a static contrast ratio of 1000:1, 350 cd/m2 brightness, 164 pixels per inch, and a 10 ms (GtG) response time. Using the 178° horizontal and vertical viewing angles, it is possible to watch content from virtually any position. This display has one HDMI input and one DisplayPort input. There is also a USB Type-C port that supports DP alt mode, data transfers of up to 5 Gb/s using the USB 3.1 Gen 1 standard, and up to 60W of power for device charging. Additional USB ports include one USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-B input, two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A outputs with 0.9A of charging power per port, and two USB 2.0 Type-A outputs with 0.5A of charging power per port.

The ColorEdge CS2740 has been engineered to support 99% of the Adobe RGB and 103% of the NTSC color gamuts. To further help improve viewing and accessibility, it features a vertical tilt of -5 to 35°, a left/right swivel of 344° (±172°), a clockwise rotation of 90°, and a height adjustment of 6.1".

General Features
4K UHD Resolution
The ColorEdge CS2740 is the first CS series monitor to implement 4K UHD resolution (3840 x 2160), which is four times the size of Full HD. This ensures that high resolution photos and other content are displayed crisply. The 27-inch screen provides ample space for easily displaying Full HD content in full with enough space to show toolbars, palettes, and other windows or applications simultaneously. This makes the monitor versatile for photos, video editing, design, and other types of creative work up to 4K.
High Pixel Density for Smooth Display
A conventional monitor displays in Full HD with just 96 ppi. The ColorEdge CS2740 has a pixel density nearly twice that at 164 ppi for 4K image display that has never looked smoother. Alphanumeric characters and contours are distinguished with greater sharpness, so you can check even the finest details without needing to zoom in.
Single Cable Connection with USB Type-C
The ColorEdge CS2740 features USB Type-C connectivity with 60W of power delivery. With a single USB Type-C cable, you can display video, transmit USB signals, and supply power to a connected device such as a smartphone or notebook PC. Simply plug in and get creative without worrying about additional cable clutter.
ColorNavigator 7 Software
ColorNavigator 7 is a calibration and quality control software for ColorEdge color management monitors that combines all the features of EIZO's previous color management software, ColorNavigator 6 and ColorNavigator NX, to create a new and improved solution for creatives in a range of fields. The proprietary software performs hardware calibration by directly utilizing the LUT (look-up-table) of the monitor for higher precision and better gradation characteristics compared to software calibration.
Quick Color Match Software
Even with all the right equipment, color matching can be a tedious process - from monitor adjustment to determining the proper retouch software and printer settings - achieving an accurate print takes a great deal of time. Quick Color Match greatly simplifies the process by automatically adjusting to the most appropriate monitor, retouching software, and printer settings, so you can focus on editing your photos and print your work quickly and hassle-free. Simply drag and drop your photo in the Quick Color Match window to automatically start the process.
Vivid Colors Reproduced to Industry Standards
The wide color gamut reproduces almost the entire Adobe RGB color space, so images shot in Adobe RGB will be displayed correctly. Photos of vibrant blue skies and lush green forests are reproduced faithfully in a way that monitors limited to an sRGB color space cannot display. The wide color gamut also ensures reproduction of almost the entire ISO-coated and US web-coated CMYK color spaces used in printing.
10-Bit Simultaneous Display
Using the DisplayPort or HDMI inputs, the monitor offers 10-bit simultaneous display from a 16-bit look-up-table (LUT) which means it can show more than one billion colors simultaneously. This is 64 times more colors than you get with 8-bit display, resulting in smooth color gradations and reduced Delta-E between two adjacent colors.
HDR Gamma Support
EIZO offers optional HLG and PQ curves for the ColorEdge CS2740 as an upgrade. The optimized gamma curves render images to appear truer to how the human eye perceives the real world compared to SDR.
Adjusted at the Factory for Smooth Color Gradations
The gamma level for each ColorEdge monitor is adjusted at the factory by measuring the R, G, and B gamma values from 0 - 255, then using the monitor's 16-bit look-up-table (LUT) to select the most appropriate tones and achieve the desired value. This helps ensure the smoothest color gradations in your images.
Uniformity Across the Screen
LCD monitors commonly exhibit fluctuations in brightness and chromaticity across the screen, affecting color accuracy. To counter this, ColorEdge monitors are equipped with EIZO's patented digital uniformity equalizer (DUE) technology which corrects deviations in every tone across the screen to help ensure a stable display.
Seamless Electrostatic Switches
The flat design uses electrostatic switches on the front bezel in place of traditional buttons for seamless access to monitor setting.
Built-In Carrying Handle
A carrying handle on the back of the monitor allows you to easily move it from one location to another.
Minimized Reflections with Non-Glare Panel
The monitor is equipped with an IPS non-glare panel for high visibility. It also uses dimming technology to minimize flicker and help prevent eye fatigue for a more comfortable working environment.
I/P Conversion for Flicker-Free Display
The HDMI input supports I/P (interlace/progressive) conversion for converting the interlace signals from TV and video into progressive signals for flicker-free display.
Wide Viewing Angles with IPS Panel
The 178° wide viewing angles afforded by the IPS panel technology allow two or more people to view the screen at once with little change in color or contrast.
Optional Light-Shielding Hood
An optional light-shielding hood is available that effectively prevents glare on the monitor's screen caused by ambient lighting. The hood attaches to the monitor magnetically, allowing users to setup quickly and easily without needing to connect separate parts.
Ergonomic Stand for Comfort and Convenience
Adjust the screen to the most comfortable angle and reposition it to show your work to a colleague or client. The monitor comes with a versatile stand that offers height, tilt, and swivel adjustments as well as portrait display. The stand is also equipped with a quick release that allows you to easily remove the screen from the stand with one touch.
Multiple Inputs
The ColorEdge CS2740 is equipped with HDMI and DisplayPort inputs. In addition to USB Type-C, it also has a USB Type-B and four USB Type-A ports.
Limited 5-Year Warranty
ColorEdge monitors are backed by a manufacturer's 5-year warranty that covers all components, including the LCD panel.
Zero Bright Pixels
EIZO guarantees its ColorEdge monitors will be free from bright sub-pixels for six months from the date of purchase.

EIZO CS2740 Reviews

Great Monitor for Photo Editing

By Herbert

This is my second Eizo monitor. It is a gem, with crystal clarity and fantastic colors which bring out the best in my Fuji raw images and Capture One workflow. It does not have the built-in calibration like my first Eizo, but the EX4 calibrator and the ColorNavigator 7 software do a great job so that my prints precisely match what is on my screen. Worth the money, for sure.

Great editing monitor

I wanted to upgrade to a "real" editing monitor. One with 99%-100% Adobe RGB gamut coverage. I shoot RAW in Adobe RGB. I whittled my choices down to Eizo and BenQ. My choice was based not only on many great reviews but also the facts that this monitor is made in Japan, Eizo's reputation for great color accuracy (and other PQ related stats) and that it has a 5 year warranty. It arrived in perfect condition. The outer box was hardly even dirty and appeared almost as it might have had I picked it up myself from the Eizo factory. A great start. It was packed well and immaculate out of the box. As it should be as a brand new item. Nothing was missing and it took about fifteen or so minutes to set it up and begin using it for photo editing. I connected my 2021 M1 MacBook Pro (MBP) to the Eizo using the included USB-C cable and that was it. I adjusted the MBPs resolution to output the Eizo's native UHD (cropped 4K) and it is crisp and sharp without any sign of over sharpening. When editing photos in Lightroom (LR), resolution is set to native 4K. If I'm surfing the web, checking messages, or whatever, I use the 1080P scaling from my MBP to make everything easier to see. I thought I would miss the slight amount of extra screen real estate going from 32" to a 27" monitor but I haven't thought about it once after I began using it. I'm glad to know I'm able to see 99% of the RGB gamut I shoot in and that those colors are accurate. I used the picture quality test from Eizo's website to put this monitor to the test and it aced them all. The color/BW gradients were butter smooth, uniformity was great across the entire screen and I saw no color bleed in grays. There are no dead/bright or stuck pixels on any of the colors. Sharpness appeared spot on also. I know it's "only" a monitor, but It's kinda special. I liken it to what it must have been like to purchase a Pioneer Kuro plasma TV.

New EIZO ColorEdge CS2740 26.9 16:9

My college's Photo Studio used EIZO monitors, so I've know about EIZO for around a decade now. Now that I am getting back into my photography I knew I wanted to get a similar brand or model to the EIZO monitors I used in college. After a year of doing some research I landed on getting the EIZO ColorEdge CS2740 26.9 and it has not disappointed. I love my new monitor and it's been great to use for my photography work and some design work.

An excellent monitor

This is my second Eizo monitor and I can highly recommend them if you are looking for an accurate color monitor for photo editing. My last monitor was an Eizo CE240W. I loved it but the CS2740 is quite an upgrade. I love the screen size, that it is 4K, and its high quality that Eizo is known for. On first glance the Eizo price may seem high in comparison with other brands. Given its quality and accuracy, plus the fact that this monitor will give many years of accurate use, the price does is not out of line. The monitor is easy to set up. The ColorNavigator 7 calibration software is excellent and allows for easy, accurate calibration. Like you, I've purchased excellent cameras and lenses. I believe my monitor is an important part of my photography and should be a complement to the rest of my photographic equipment.

Who Needs 5K?

My 27 2017 iMac needed replacing. Apple no longer makes a 27 iMac so I purchased the new M1 Mac Studio. That meant I needed a new monitor as well. I almost ordered the Mac 27 studio monitor. You know, the same 5K monitor that was on my old iMac. But then I started my research and discovered EIZO had started making a more moderately priced 27 display. For only around $100 or so more money than the Apple screen I now have an incredible, color accurate, 4K EIZO ColorEdge CS2740. I have no regrets at all. It was plug and play from the start. I did a manual calibration with my iStudio gear and marvel at the accuracy. I don't miss the 5K slick screen at all. I bought this monitor because I'm a photographer and color accuracy is important. One caveat; if you need a built in camera and speakers go elsewhere. EIZO is known for color accuracy not Zoom meetings. I have an old Bose computer speaker system that still works and it plugged right in to the Mac Studio. If you need the best color rendition you can get for under $2000, this monitor is a great choice.

Fantastically accurate and precise monitor

I am super happy with the purchase of my new Eizo ColorEdge CS2740 monitor. I spend upwards of six to ten hours a day doing research and writing. This monitor has made such a huge difference in my life! I also wish to say that all the guys at B&H were incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. They took the time to look up my Apple Laptop specs and were able to help me understand the color gamut and scaling. Right out of the box, I was very pleased with my purchase.

Great Monitor (but expensive!)

The monitor is excellent - color accuracy (Adobe RGB), uniformity, etc... probably the best manufacturer of monitors with hardware calibration (built-in LUT)... with second place to BenQ. I just wish hardware calibration monitors were less expensive (sad face)!

I've had Eizo ColorEdge before but needed an upgrade. This printer with the calibration EX4 tool is quite exceptional for the money. Only thing it won't do is HDR which will cost you a lot more with the self calibrating system. Otherwise they are pretty much identical. Using it with a Mac Mini Pro with M2 chip. No issues.
