Combining a comfortable wide-angle design with an ultra-fast maximum aperture, the 16mm f/1.4 DC DN is part of Sigma's Contemporary series of lenses and designed for use with APS-C-format L-mount mirrorless cameras. Characterized by its bright f/1.4 maximum aperture, this lens is adept at working in low-light conditions and also affords increased control over depth of field for selective focus control. The optical design makes use of several low dispersion and aspherical elements, which control color fringing and various aberrations in order to provide high sharpness and clarity throughout the aperture range. Individual elements also feature a super multilayered coating to suppress flare and ghosting for greater contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions. Benefitting the optical assets, this lens also sports a stepping AF motor for quick, quiet, and smooth focusing performance that suits both still photography as well as video applications.

Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Overview
By B&H Photo's
As part of the Contemporary line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens is designed to achieve a balance between convenience and performance, and meshes a compact, lightweight build and versatile handling with notable optical attributes.
Wide-angle prime is designed for APS-C-format Leica L-mount mirrorless cameras and provides a 24mm equivalent focal length.
Bright f/1.4 maximum aperture excels in low-light conditions and also affords increased control over depth of field for achieving selective focus effects.
Two special low dispersion (SLD) elements and three F low dispersion (FLD) elements reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to achieve greater clarity and color accuracy.
Two aspherical elements are used to limit distortion and spherical aberrations and also contribute to greater overall sharpness and accurate rendering.
A super multilayered coating has been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions.
A stepping AF motor benefits both photographers and videographers with its fast, precise, and near-silent performance.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.
The bayonet mount is constructed from brass to ensure accuracy and durability. Additionally, rubber sealing in the mount design renders it dust and splash resistant.

The new Panasonic S5 has APS-C crop in 4K 60fps. Would this lens behave as a 24mm lens? Seems like it should.
Yes, the lens is not full frame so is an APS-C sensor lens. so it will work on the S5 as a crop lens which in this case is 24mm.

Will the L mount lens work on a Panasonic s1 and if so, do the focal length and aperture stay the same?
This lens fits on the S1 but it is an APS-C lens and the camera by default will crop itself by approximately 50%. The focal length of the lens will then approximate to 24mm.

is this lens good for the Sony A7Riii ?
is this lens good for the Sony A7Riii ?
Not really, this is a lens for cropped sensors and will reduce the resolution by about 40%. If you are searching Sigma lenses, make sure they have a DG designation instead of a DC designation.

The Canon EOS R is dual mode where the camera can be set to crop mode (APS-C), one should still get 16mm via the EOS R adapters no? (looks like some people don't know the EOS R can go crop-mode and are giving wrong answers).
I don't think that there is an adapter that allows an M-mount lens to be mounted on an R-mount camera. The sensor-to-flange distance for the two mounts are too similar to fabricate one. Other than that, it should work. The lens communicates with the body like an EF lens and has the coverage for an APS-C sensor.

question
What are the physical dimensions of the lens with the hood attached? I have ordered the lens and looking to get a lens case that fits the lens with the hood on. Thanks
The lens by itself is approximately 2.84 x 3.63 / 72.2 x 92.3 mm. The hood adds about 2.41 /61.21mm for a total of 5.24 /133.3mm.
